A coordinated security operation involving the police, military, and local vigilante groups has led to the rescue of one of two individuals abducted during a violent attack on a residential estate in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the rescue in a statement released on Monday, noting that efforts are ongoing to locate and free the second victim.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. on May 26 at Grow Homes Estate, situated in the Byazhin area of Kuchibuyi village. The attackers reportedly gained entry into the estate by breaching a section of the perimeter fence before taking two residents captive.
Responding swiftly to a distress call from officers posted nearby, security forces engaged the gunmen in a prolonged exchange of fire, which lasted approximately 40 minutes. One victim, identified as Chinyere Joe, was successfully rescued during the confrontation. However, the second victim was taken away by the assailants.
“The joint security team, including the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, military personnel, and vigilantes, is currently conducting intensive search and rescue efforts to ensure the safe return of the remaining abductee,” SP Adeh stated.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public to remain alert and cooperative, urging residents to report any suspicious activity through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913, 08028940883, and 07057337653.
