Plans to build a 100-home estate in Northampton, England, have been rejected by West Northamptonshire Council after more than 700 residents objected to the proposal.
The application by Barwood Development Securities sought to develop a five-hectare site off Harlestone Road and York Way, featuring 40% affordable homes, open space, and pedestrian links to nearby woodland.
Residents argued the project would destroy part of the woodland and spoil the area’s peaceful character. “For many of us, this woodland is a sanctuary,” said Amanda Onyett, a local resident.
Despite developers’ assurances that nearly half the land would remain green, councillors voted to reject the project, citing the need to protect Harlestone Firs and preserve Northampton’s “green wedge.”
