Tinubu holds extended security meeting with service chiefs in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday entered an extended closed-door security meeting with the nation’s service chiefs at the State House, Abuja, as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to curb rising insecurity across the country.

The high-level briefing, which was ongoing as of press time, brought together the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi.

Photographs from the meeting, released by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, on his official X handle, showed the President receiving updates from the military, police and intelligence chiefs. The images indicated that Sunday’s session is part of renewed coordination by the administration to strengthen national security and improve rapid response across troubled regions.

The meeting took place just hours after Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, insisting that his government would not relent until citizens across all states enjoy safety and stability.

Earlier on Sunday, the President announced the rescue of 38 worshippers abducted during an attack on a church in Eruku, Kwara State, as well as 51 students kidnapped from a Catholic school in Niger State. He also confirmed that he cancelled his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to personally oversee ongoing security operations.

The presidency has not yet released details of resolutions from the meeting, but officials said a statement is expected later.
