Yilwatda Nentawe, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, has officially taken over as the new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His emergence was confirmed on Thursday during the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
According to a report first published by The PUNCH, Nentawe’s appointment followed a motion presented by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who currently chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum. The motion was supported by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Shortly after the endorsement, Nentawe was sworn in as chairman at approximately 2:50 p.m., with prominent figures in the APC witnessing the ceremony.
The new chairman hails from Plateau State in Nigeria’s North Central region. He previously ran as the APC governorship candidate during the 2023 general elections.
His elevation to the party’s top post marks a significant leadership shift, particularly as the APC positions itself for internal reforms and broader national influence. The decision to install a sitting minister further underscores the party’s efforts to consolidate its structure ahead of future political milestones.
