The Olofin of Isheri Mole in Ogun State, Oba Sulaiman Bamgbade, has donated land for the construction of a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) barracks in his community.

Speaking during a visit to the NDLEA headquarters, the monarch, who is also the Adimula of Awori Kingdoms, expressed deep concern over the growing rate of drug-related activities at the Kara Market in Isheri, which he described as the largest cattle market in the South-West.

“The Kara Market is a pride of our community as the biggest cattle market in the South-West, but unfortunately, it has also become a hotbed for illicit drug activities. This is a serious threat to our youths, our traders, and the peace of the kingdom. We cannot fold our arms while drug abuse destroys lives and communities,” Oba Bamgbade stated.

He explained that the donation of land within Isheri Olofin was aimed at ensuring a permanent NDLEA presence in the area. “To show our seriousness, I am making available land within Isheri Olofin for the construction of an NDLEA barracks. This will ensure that your men are permanently present, not just to police, but also to prevent and rehabilitate,” he added.

In response, the NDLEA chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), commended the royal father for his gesture and assured him that the agency would act swiftly. “This is a laudable initiative and a strong show of leadership. We will look into the intelligence provided, and I will push for the approval to establish an NDLEA formation in Isheri. The community is strategic, given its border location between Lagos and Ogun,” he said.

The monarch emphasized that the fight against drug abuse requires collaboration between traditional institutions, security agencies, and the government. He noted that the establishment of a permanent NDLEA presence would help protect young people and restore order in the community.
