Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen.
The monarch was reportedly attacked on Wednesday night after armed men stormed his palace and forcefully took him away. Sources within the community disclosed that the assailants attempted to abduct the ruler, but he resisted before he was shot.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, Jimoh Abayomi, said the command received distress information around 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu.
According to the police spokesperson, about six armed men invaded the monarch’s residence and forcibly removed him from the premises. He was later discovered with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Divisional Police Officer, supported by tactical units of the command, has since mobilised officers in collaboration with local hunters, Atuluse Security operatives and members of the Amotekun Corps to comb nearby forests and adjoining communities in search of the attackers.
The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the killing, while security surveillance has been intensified across the area to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
