The Ogun State Government has announced plans to commence the second phase of the Aviation Village housing project in Iperu-Remo before the end of the first quarter of 2025.

This expansion will add 200 more housing units, providing affordable accommodation and boosting economic activities around the Gateway International Airport corridor along the Iperu/Ilisan Road.

Housing Project Expansion
The state’s Commissioner for Housing, Akande Omoniyi, shared this update on Monday while inspecting the completed first phase, which also consists of 200 housing units. According to Omoniyi, the first phase has been fully sold out, demonstrating strong demand for housing in the area.

“So far, what we have on the ground is fully sold, and I am happy to announce that on or before the first quarter of this year, we shall open up Phase 2 for another 200 units of the affordable housing scheme,” Omoniyi stated.

He explained that the Aviation Village housing project is part of the state government’s broader strategy to develop the Remo cluster and provide housing for workers and businesses operating around the Gateway International Airport corridor.

Infrastructure and Readiness
The commissioner highlighted the estate’s modern infrastructure, which includes:

Well-developed drainage system
Paved internal roads
Modern electrical installations
Security measures for residents’ safety
Omoniyi also confirmed that the estate’s road network is 98% complete, with only minor finishing touches remaining. He assured that residents can start moving in by February 12, 2025, marking a major step in the government’s housing development plans.

Gateway International Airport’s Role in Economic Growth
The Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport was initially approved in 2008 by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) but remained unbuilt until April 2021 when construction began under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

While initial plans aimed to launch commercial passenger and cargo services by the end of 2024, delays have pushed full operations to May 2025, when the airport finally received authorization for non-scheduled flights.

Potential Economic Impact
Despite delays, experts highlight the airport’s significant economic benefits, including:

Boosting agricultural exports
Creating jobs and attracting investment
Increasing government revenue
Expanding trade opportunities
Designed as an aerotropolis, the airport features:

A cargo hub
An international testing center for export certification
A special agro-processing zone
A 3.4 km runway, passenger terminal, and fuel depot
The Aviation Village housing project aligns with these developments, ensuring a well-planned residential area for those working around the airport, making it a key part of Ogun State’s long-term growth strategy.
