Enitan will assume office on August 27, 2026.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the appointment on Wednesday.

Enitan will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack. She will retire from the Federal Civil Service after reaching the statutory retirement age of 60.

Enitan Brings Seven Years of Permanent Secretary Experience

Enitan, who is from Osun State, currently serves as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.

He is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has held the rank for seven years and seven months.

During his career, Enitan has worked in several key government offices. His previous assignments include the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.

His experience across these institutions gives him a broad understanding of federal government operations.

As Head of the Civil Service, Enitan will oversee the federal civil service system. He will also play a key role in improving efficiency and professional standards across government institutions.

Tinubu Sets Priorities for New Head of Service

President Tinubu thanked Walson-Jack for her years of service to Nigeria.

Tinubu Govt Reveals Breakdown of N15.8trn Fuel Subsidy Savings

The Federal Government has explained how it shared N15.8 trillion in savings from fuel subsidy removal over the past three years.

Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele gave the figures at a press conference on Wednesday. He explained how the subsidy reform affected government finances and the Federation Account.

According to Oyedele, the government saved N15.8 trillion after removing the fuel subsidy. The Federal Government, states and local governments shared the funds.

The Federal Government received N5.43 trillion from the savings. State governments received N6.52 trillion, while local governments received N3.88 trillion.

Oyedele said the savings did not create one large cash reserve for the Federal Government. Instead, the reform reduced the cost of maintaining the fuel subsidy.

Government Records Additional Revenue

The finance minister also disclosed other financial gains from the reforms.

The government generated N3.12 trillion in additional revenue during the period. It also recorded N11.85 trillion in additional borrowing.

Together, these sources gave the Federal Government about N20.4 trillion in additional resources.

However, government spending also increased during the same period. Oyedele said the Federal Government spent about N30.64 trillion on additional expenditures.

The figures show that subsidy removal did not leave the government with a large surplus. Instead, the reform helped reduce the pressure on government finances.

Oyedele said the government would have needed more borrowing without the savings from subsidy removal.

Wage adjustments accounted for N9.39 trillion. The government also spent N9.37 trillion on external debt servicing.

Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram, Akoko, in and brings over two decades of experience in fiscal policy and tax administration. He previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.

The committee produced four executive bills—, , , and —which consolidated over 60 taxes into fewer than 10 statutes and introduced reforms such as zero income tax for Nigerians earning N800,000 or less.

These reforms, signed into law by President Tinubu on June 26, 2025, also exempted small businesses with turnovers below N50 million from company income tax, capital gains tax, and withholding tax, while providing incentives for employment and wage growth.

FCA Ibadan Students Secure ₦19.5m NELFUND Loans

Ninety-one students of the Federal College of Agriculture, Moor Plantation, Ibadan (FCAIB) have received a total of ₦19.54 million in financial support from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to help them continue their studies without financial stress.

The disbursement, achieved under the leadership of the college’s Provost, Professor Jonathan J. Atungwu, highlights FCA Ibadan’s commitment to inclusive education and support for students from low-income backgrounds.

The funds followed a sensitisation session held on August 29, 2025, where students were guided on the objectives and benefits of the NELFUND scheme. The programme is based on the Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) (Repeal and Re-enactment) Act, 2024, signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

According to Barrister Elum, the college’s NELFUND liaison officer, over 600 students were uploaded to the NELFUND portal. Of these, 92 applications were processed, 91 approved, and ₦19.54 million fully disbursed to beneficiaries. He stressed transparency and proper documentation during the application process.

Former Students’ Union President, Comrade Pelumi Folarin, praised the initiative, calling it a lifeline for students struggling financially.

“This intervention has brought hope to those who might have dropped out due to lack of funds. We are grateful to the government and the College Management for making this possible,” he said.

The sensitisation event drew top college officials, including the Deputy Provosts (Administration and Academic), Registrar, Head of Bursary, Director of Audit, Deans, and the Dean of Student Affairs, showing management’s strong backing for student welfare.

In a statement, the college lauded the Federal Government and NELFUND for their timely intervention.

“This milestone will ease the financial burden on our students. We commend the government’s vision and hope the scheme continues to benefit more indigent students nationwide,” it said.

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd.), has disclosed that he and the late President Muhammadu Buhari were receiving treatment at the same hospital in London shortly before Buhari’s passing.

In an interview with Channels Television on Monday, Abdulsalami revealed that he had just been discharged when he heard the news of Buhari’s death.

“Unfortunately, we were in the same hospital. I had just been discharged when I heard of his passing. I went to console the family and help with arrangements to prepare the body for transport back home,” he said.

Sources within the presidency confirmed that General Abdulsalami was undergoing treatment for age-related complications during his stay in London.

President Buhari’s death was officially announced on Sunday. His remains were initially expected to arrive in Nigeria on Monday, but logistics setbacks have caused a delay.

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad shared an update on X (formerly Twitter) Monday afternoon. He stated that Buhari’s body is now scheduled to arrive in Katsina by noon on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The funeral will take place in his hometown, Daura, at 2:00 p.m. the same day.

“The body of the late President Muhammadu Buhari is expected in Katsina at 12:00 noon tomorrow. The burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Daura, according to Islamic rites,” Ahmad posted.

Multiple sources in London confirmed that the delay was due to flight schedules, hospital clearance, and other logistical issues. The earliest available flight is now set for Tuesday morning or early afternoon.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who is already in London, has been informed of the new arrangements. He is also updating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

While addressing a cheering crowd, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the projects reflect his administration’s focus on impactful, inclusive governance that reaches the very core of the communities.

He praised the commitment of the Ibeju-Lekki leadership and described the projects as living proof that transformational leadership, when backed by cooperation and vision, brings visible results. For him, Ibeju-Lekki has remained an important part of Lagos State’s blueprint for growth, and these achievements confirm that the area is thriving and enjoying the true dividends of democracy.

The governor particularly highlighted the administrative block’s dedication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a meaningful gesture and noted that Tinubu continues to earn recognition even from Abuja. Commending Chairman Olowa’s foresight, Sanwo-Olu also handed over a newly built legislative facility for local lawmakers, describing it as a well-constructed and thoughtfully designed space for effective governance.

He expressed gratitude to the council leadership for their work and urged them to continue building on the momentum, saying the future of Lagos depends on strong, people-driven action from the grassroots upward.
