Technology-Powered Traffic Enforcement

Dr. Abdullateef Bello, Director of DRTS, announced the initiative in Abuja on Monday.

The new system uses advanced technological devices to track traffic violations.

These devices will issue electronic tickets, reducing the need for direct interaction between enforcement officers and motorists.

Bello explained that the system complies with the legal framework outlined by the FCT Transportation Secretariat.

The devices will automatically detect infractions, ensuring that violators are promptly identified and ticketed.

Penalties for Traffic Violations

Motorists who violate traffic rules will now receive e-tickets. They must pay the fines within seven days. Failure to pay will result in vehicle impoundment.

The system ensures that only offenders are selected, and only those breaking the law will face penalties.

Court Ruling on Vehicle Stops

A recent court ruling barred DRTS from stopping vehicles randomly.

Bello confirmed that the directorate has appealed the court’s decision.

Training and Real-Time Simulation

The DRTS has trained enforcement officers to use the new devices. T

hey also conducted a simulation exercise to prepare officers for real-world application.

The e-ticketing system will enhance traffic management in Abuja, making enforcement more efficient and transparent.
