The shuttle service, comprising 10 buses and 20 saloon cars, will charge passengers N10,000 per trip from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to the city centre.

Speaking at the launch, FAAN Governing Board Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje highlighted the environmental and operational advantages of electric vehicles. “Electric vehicles are cleaner, quieter, and more energy-efficient, reducing carbon emissions and enhancing passenger comfort. They also improve monitoring, coordination, and compliance within airport operations,” he stated.

The initiative aligns with global sustainability goals, including the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Ganduje added that FAAN is committed to maintaining and expanding the electric shuttle initiative across other airports in Nigeria.

FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, announced plans to deploy 100 electric vehicles at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. She emphasized that the first phase, featuring 10 electric shuttle buses, marks a significant step toward greener operations and reduced carbon footprint in Nigerian aviation.

Operations will run daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with fares subsidized to ensure accessibility. The initiative is part of FAAN’s broader commitment to sustainable infrastructure, cleaner airports, and improved passenger experiences.
