Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has announced that his administration will deliver 15,000 mass-housing units for civil servants and middle-income earners before the end of 2026.

Mbah made the pledge on Monday while delivering a lecture at the 4th Enugu Diocesan Synod of the Catholic Church, held at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Ogui, Enugu.

He said the housing programme is part of a broader plan to expand access to affordable and dignified accommodation across the state.

The governor highlighted ongoing work on the Enugu Smart City Project, which includes smart housing, fibre-optic connectivity, and renewable-energy systems aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.

He also disclosed that rehabilitation has begun at the Aluminium Plant in Ohebe-Dim, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area. The facility, he said, will be commissioned on October 1, 2026, and upgraded to manufacture aluminium products and profiles.

Mbah further announced that the Enugu State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, has now been upgraded to a full University Teaching Hospital.

Speaking on the role of faith institutions, he said the church “forms character,” while government builds the systems needed to help society flourish. He added that the synod serves as a moment of “listening, reflection, and renewal.”

The 4th Enugu Diocesan Synod, opened on Sunday by Bishop Calistus Onaga, is scheduled to run from November 16–22 and is focused on the theme, “Promoting a Productive Economy in Enugu State.”
