Odeleye spoke in Lagos during his induction as president of the Nigerian chapter. Sixteen new members were also inducted at the event.

He said Nigeria has strong potential to attract foreign investment through real estate. He added that the country could become a major player in Africa’s property market.

FIABCI World Congress

Odeleye pointed to the successful hosting of FIABCI’s 75th World Congress in Lagos as proof of Nigeria’s potential.

The event was the first FIABCI World Congress to be held in Africa. Odeleye said the congress showed that Nigeria could host major global real estate events.

He said the event also gave Nigerian professionals greater visibility within the international property industry.

According to him, his administration will focus on turning FIABCI’s global network into business and investment opportunities for members.

He also wants Nigerian professionals to gain more access to international knowledge and partnerships.

Odeleye said Nigeria should have a stronger voice in global discussions about the future of African real estate.

Focus on Young Professionals

The new FIABCI Nigeria president also announced plans to expand the chapter’s membership.

He said the association would introduce a mentorship programme for younger professionals. The programme will focus on skills, training and international exposure.

He said these efforts would help members compete for business opportunities both in Nigeria and abroad.

Odeleye also promised to strengthen the chapter’s institutional structure. He said his administration would promote transparency, unity and greater participation among members.

Wider Participation

The FIABCI Nigeria president said the association should not be seen as an organisation based in only one city.

He called for members in Abuja, Port Harcourt and other parts of the country to take part in the chapter’s activities.

A wider membership base could help the association connect more professionals across Nigeria’s property market. It could also improve the sharing of knowledge and business opportunities within the sector.

Building Communities, Not Just Estates

Odeleye also called for a broader approach to property development.

He said developers should look beyond building estates and focus on creating functional communities.

This approach requires attention to roads, water, power, transport and other basic infrastructure. It also requires closer cooperation between developers and government agencies.

For Nigeria’s housing sector, this is important because housing development is closely linked to infrastructure and urban planning. New homes cannot function as complete communities without access to basic services and supporting infrastructure.

Stronger Government Engagement

Odeleye said FIABCI members have access to international professionals and global industry practices.

The association regularly engages with international colleagues through webinars and other professional activities.

He said the knowledge gained from these engagements could be shared with government officials. This could support better decisions on housing, infrastructure and urban development.

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has responsibilities covering housing and urban development in Nigeria. Better cooperation between government and property professionals can support more informed approaches to development.

Opatola Commended

Odeleye also praised the immediate past president, Akin Opatola, for his leadership of the Nigerian chapter.

He credited Opatola with promoting an inclusive approach during his tenure. His administration also led the chapter through the 75th FIABCI World Congress in Lagos.

Opatola also encouraged collaboration between FIABCI Nigeria and relevant government agencies.

Real Estate and Nigeria’s Investment Future

Real estate remains important to Nigeria’s housing, construction and urban development needs. The sector also provides opportunities for domestic and international investors.

Odeleye’s focus on international partnerships could help connect Nigerian professionals with investors, developers and property experts from other markets.

For Nigeria to attract more investment, however, real estate growth must go alongside strong infrastructure, effective planning and better cooperation between the public and private sectors.

The FIABCI Nigeria leadership is now seeking to use its international network to expand business opportunities, improve professional development and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global real estate industry.

The proposed collaboration is expected to promote affordable housing delivery, create jobs, and strengthen long-term economic ties between the two nations.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Muttaqha Rabe Darma, held talks in Abuja with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef Bin Muhammad Al-Balawi, to explore opportunities for collaboration in real estate investment, infrastructure development, and technology transfer. Discussions also covered Nigeria’s participation in the Riyadh Real Estate Future Forum (RFF) 2027, which is expected to bring together global investors and industry stakeholders.

Darma said international partnerships remain essential to achieving the Federal Government’s housing objectives under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that Nigeria’s large housing demand presents significant investment opportunities and expressed optimism that Saudi Arabia’s experience in large-scale housing delivery could support efforts to expand access to decent and affordable housing across the country.

The minister added that the proposed partnership could encourage Saudi developers and investors to participate in Nigeria’s real estate market while facilitating the exchange of technical expertise, modern construction technologies, and best practices in housing development. According to him, greater foreign investment would help accelerate housing delivery, stimulate economic growth, and strengthen the construction industry.

Saudi Ambassador Yousef Bin Muhammad Al-Balawi reaffirmed his country’s readiness to support Nigeria’s housing development efforts. He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s achievements through its National Housing Company and said the Kingdom is willing to share its experience in housing development, urban planning, and project delivery. He also noted that the partnership could create employment opportunities for qualified Nigerian professionals and skilled workers in Saudi Arabia’s housing and construction sector.

Both countries agreed that stronger cooperation in housing, infrastructure, investment, and technology would contribute to sustainable urban development while reinforcing diplomatic and economic relations. Stakeholders believe the partnership could unlock new financing opportunities, increase private sector participation, and support Nigeria’s efforts to reduce its housing deficit through international collaboration.

Confirming his attendance at the upcoming African Mining Week in South Africa, the Minister emphasized the federal government’s resolve to establish Africa as a premier, globally competitive destination for mining investments through aggressive regulatory adjustments and structured regional partnerships.

Speaking in Abuja during a strategic session with the event organizers, Energy Capital and Power, Alake stated that the nation’s upcoming participation coincides with a crucial milestone for continental resource governance. This development follows the presidency’s recent endorsement of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group Charter, alongside the Minister’s appointment as the pioneer head of the organization’s steering committee.

According to the ministry, the central government intends to utilize the international gathering to transition its policy blueprints into actionable cross-border ventures, unified regulatory approaches, and sustainable financing models. The administration’s current sectoral roadmap targets raising the mining industry’s contribution to the national gross domestic product to 10 percent by expanding national exploration projects, improving geological data collection, and strictly enforcing local mineral beneficiation laws.

Nigeria is actively strengthening bilateral ties with key regional counterparts, including South Africa and South Sudan, recognizing that long-term global competitiveness requires integrated continental markets and shared infrastructure. A major highlight of the upcoming summit will be an exclusive roundtable focusing on the deployment of the Africa Minerals and Metals Exchange, mineral tokenization frameworks, and public-private funding options designed to secure the continent’s place in strategic global supply chains.

Furthermore, observers emphasize that sustained public and private investment in critical infrastructure—including roads, power supply, port facilities, and logistics networks—is enhancing the competitiveness of the LFTZ and improving investor confidence.
The handover took place during a groundbreaking ceremony held in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area, where government officials, investors, and industry stakeholders gathered to mark the commencement of the project.

Bago: Project Will Transform Niger State’s Economy

Speaking at the event, Governor Bago described the initiative as a landmark investment that would significantly reshape the economic and industrial landscape of Niger State.

According to him, the project reflects the state’s commitment to becoming a leading destination for investment and sustainable economic growth.

“What we are witnessing today is more than a ceremony. It is a clear declaration of our commitment to transforming Niger State into a preferred investment destination and building a New Niger that delivers opportunities for our people,” Bago said.

The governor noted that the project would leverage the state’s strategic advantages, including access to gas resources from the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Pipeline, vast land resources, and existing power infrastructure.

He highlighted Niger State’s status as home to four major hydropower stations—Kainji, Jebba, Zungeru, and Shiroro Dams—which provide a strong foundation for industrial expansion and renewable energy development.

Bago also commended the management of Abuja Steel Mills and its parent company, African Industries Group (AIG), for choosing Niger State as the location for the ambitious project.

AIG Chairman Describes Land Allocation as Historic

The Group Chairman of African Industries Group, Raj Gupta, described the allocation of 500 hectares as a historic milestone that goes beyond industrial development.

According to Gupta, the project is designed to drive economic empowerment, community development, and employment generation.

“This is not just an opportunity to build industries and create jobs. It is about development, upliftment, and empowering people,” he stated.

He revealed that the proposed solar farm is expected to become the largest solar power installation in Sub-Saharan Africa, further positioning Nigeria as a major player in renewable energy and steel production.

“This project will put Nigeria not only on the global steel map but also on the renewable energy map,” Gupta added.

Power Minister Hails Bago’s Industrial Vision

Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, praised Governor Bago for demonstrating what he described as “industrial statesmanship” through the allocation of land for the project.

Tegbe said the initiative would serve as a lasting legacy by attracting significant private-sector investments and stimulating economic activities in Niger State.

“The most enduring legacy of governance is not just physical infrastructure but the industries, investments, and jobs created through strategic decisions,” he said.

The minister assured investors of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing challenges within the power sector to support industrial growth nationwide.

Steel Development Minister Applauds Investment

Also speaking, Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar, commended the governor’s foresight in making the land available for industrial use.

He praised Raj Gupta for transforming African Industries Group into one of the largest steel manufacturers in Nigeria and West Africa.

According to him, the company has grown from a small enterprise into a major industrial player employing over 10,000 workers and contributing significantly to Nigeria’s steel sector.

Abubakar expressed confidence that the solar farm and industrial park would revolutionise industrial development in Niger State while supporting President Bola Tinubu’s economic growth agenda.

Project Expected to Boost Jobs and Productivity

Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Enoh, described the project as a major catalyst for industrialisation and productivity.

He noted that the planned solar farm and industrial park would create new employment opportunities, reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported industrial products, and strengthen local manufacturing capacity.

“The missing link in our economy is productivity. Projects like this create jobs, stimulate industrial growth, and reduce the nation’s import burden,” Enoh said.

The minister added that collaboration between government and private investors remains essential to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential and driving sustainable development.

Industrial Hub Set to Drive Economic Growth

The 500-hectare allocation is expected to pave the way for the establishment of one of Nigeria’s largest renewable energy and industrial infrastructure projects.

Stakeholders believe the development will attract additional investments into Niger State, expand manufacturing activities, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and strengthen Nigeria’s position in both the steel and renewable energy sectors.

With construction activities set to commence, the Solar Farm and AIG Industrial Park are projected to become key drivers of industrial transformation and economic growth in the North-Central region and across Nigeria.

The Central Bank recently announced incredibly positive economic news. Nigeria FX reserves officially hit an astounding $50.2 billion. This remarkable figure represents the absolute highest reserve level recorded in exactly 17 years.

Currently, this massive surge signals strong recovery for the national economy. You can track ongoing financial data directly on the Central Bank of Nigeria website.

What drives the Nigeria FX reserves surge?

Several key factors drove this massive financial recovery recently. Analysts point to aggressive government reforms and increased foreign direct investment. Furthermore, improved oil revenues heavily boosted the national treasury over the past year.

Key drivers pushing this massive growth include:

Oil exports: Higher production levels completely stabilized national income streams.

Forex reforms: The Central Bank implemented highly transparent currency trading mechanisms.

Remittances: Increased diaspora funds significantly strengthened the domestic economy.

Consequently, these strategic policies successfully attracted cautious international investors back.

How this impacts the local economy

Building massive Nigeria FX reserves provides a crucial economic buffer. A strong financial reserve actively helps stabilize the volatile Naira exchange rate. Therefore, local businesses can import vital raw materials much cheaper now.

Additionally, this massive financial milestone signals renewed global confidence in the economy. Investors generally prefer countries holding massive emergency funds.

What happens next for the market?

Financial experts genuinely expect this positive momentum to continue steadily. However, sustaining these reserves requires strict fiscal discipline from the government. The administration must protect these vital funds against sudden global market shocks.

Ultimately, maintaining a stable national economy deeply benefits everyday citizens across the country.

The report showed that capital inflows also increased by 61 per cent from the $6.44 billion recorded in the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting growing foreign investor confidence in Nigerian financial assets.

Portfolio investments remained the dominant source of inflows, accounting for $9.86 billion or 95.1 per cent of total capital imported during the period. This represented an 89.5 per cent increase compared to the first quarter of 2025 and a 79.8 per cent rise from the previous quarter.

Within the portfolio investment category, money market instruments attracted $6.50 billion, while bond investments accounted for $3.23 billion, jointly contributing more than 98 per cent of total portfolio inflows.

Despite the strong overall performance, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) remained relatively weak. Nigeria recorded FDI inflows of $135.08 million, representing only 1.3 per cent of total capital importation. Although this was seven per cent higher than the figure recorded a year earlier, it declined by over 62 per cent compared to the previous quarter.

Other investments contributed $374.48 million, accounting for 3.6 per cent of total inflows. Loans represented the largest component at $364.43 million, while trade credits accounted for approximately $10 million.

Banking Sector Dominates Capital Inflows

Sectoral analysis revealed that the banking sector remained the largest recipient of foreign capital during the quarter, attracting $7.55 billion or 72.8 per cent of total inflows.

The financing sector followed with $2.43 billion, representing 23.4 per cent, meaning the two sectors accounted for more than 96 per cent of all capital imported into the country during the period.

The production and manufacturing sector received $152.27 million, while investments in shares amounted to $75.34 million.

Other sectors attracted significantly lower inflows, including trading ($65.79 million), agriculture ($37.28 million), information technology services ($11.33 million), and telecommunications ($7.24 million).

Notably, sectors critical to economic diversification recorded minimal investment. The oil and gas sector attracted only $460,000, while construction received $100,000. Education and healthcare recorded inflows of $70,000 and $120,000 respectively.

UK Leads Source Countries

The United Kingdom emerged as the largest source of capital imported into Nigeria during the quarter, contributing $5.08 billion or 49 per cent of total inflows.

The United States followed with $3.18 billion, accounting for 30.7 per cent, while South Africa contributed $983.83 million, representing 9.5 per cent of total capital importation.

Mauritius and the United Arab Emirates contributed $390.07 million and $194.51 million respectively.

Standard Chartered Tops Receiving Banks

Among financial institutions, Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria processed the highest volume of capital inflows, receiving $4.41 billion or 42.6 per cent of total importation.

Stanbic IBTC Bank followed with $2.78 billion, while Rand Merchant Bank handled $930.82 million.

Other major receiving institutions included Citibank Nigeria, Access Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, Guaranty Trust Bank, Zenith Bank, FCMB, Ecobank Nigeria and Fidelity Bank.

Analysts say the latest figures highlight sustained foreign investor preference for short-term financial instruments, particularly bonds and money market assets, while long-term productive investments such as manufacturing, agriculture, construction and oil and gas continue to attract relatively low levels of foreign capital.
