The assurance was given on Thursday when the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, received the Acting High Commissioner of Ghana in Abuja to discuss recent developments involving a commercial dispute between a Ghanaian investor and his Nigerian business partner.

The meeting focused on ensuring that the multi-billion-naira property dispute does not escalate into a diplomatic issue capable of affecting the cordial relations that have existed between both countries for decades.

Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Ahmed reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana and assured the Ghanaian delegation that the Federal Government would address the concerns through appropriate diplomatic and institutional channels.

He explained that although the matter appears to be commercial and legal in nature, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would carefully review the issues raised before forwarding its recommendations to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for further action.

“The Ministry attaches great importance to issues affecting the welfare of citizens of friendly countries residing in Nigeria and will carefully examine the concerns presented,” Ahmed said.

He further assured the delegation that relevant government institutions would be engaged where necessary through established diplomatic channels to ensure the matter is handled responsibly.

The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the rule of law, stressing that the country remains dedicated to protecting legitimate investments while encouraging all parties to resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue and lawful procedures.

Earlier, the Acting High Commissioner of Ghana thanked the Permanent Secretary for granting the delegation an audience at short notice, describing the meeting as another reflection of the strong diplomatic ties between both countries.

She explained that Ghana considered it important to engage the Nigerian government through official diplomatic channels to prevent the commercial disagreement from creating unnecessary public tension capable of affecting bilateral relations.

The envoy expressed concern over the safety and welfare of Ghanaian nationals connected with the investment, alleging that recent developments surrounding the ownership dispute had heightened tensions.

She appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate engagement with relevant Nigerian authorities and urged the government to ensure the protection of lives, property and investments while legal proceedings continue.

The Acting High Commissioner maintained that Ghana remains committed to resolving the matter peacefully and in accordance with the law, expressing confidence that both countries possess the diplomatic maturity required to prevent the dispute from affecting broader cooperation.

Responding, Ambassador Ahmed assured the delegation that Nigeria values its historic relationship with Ghana and remains committed to maintaining an environment that encourages investment, protects foreign nationals and promotes mutual trust among partner nations.

He added that the Ministry would continue working closely with the Ghana High Commission and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the dispute is managed in a manner that safeguards the interests of all parties without undermining the enduring friendship between Nigeria and Ghana.

The ownership dispute over River Park Estate has attracted significant public attention in recent months, with both governments now emphasizing dialogue, diplomacy and legal processes as the appropriate path toward a lasting resolution.

The reduction was primarily attributed to a decline in food inflation, which reached 3.9 percent in January.

These latest results signal increasing price stability in the cocoa-producing West African nation and represent the lowest inflation rate since the rebasing of Ghana’s Consumer Price Index in 2021.

At a press briefing, Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu stated that the trend demonstrates ongoing progress in stabilizing prices. “The sustained decline indicates that Ghana is steadily moving toward price stability,” Iddrisu commented.

In contrast, Nigeria is still awaiting the release of its January 2026 consumer price index and inflation data, scheduled for February 16. In December, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that Nigeria’s inflation rate dropped to 15.15 percent, although many Nigerians continue to face the pressures of high living costs.

Since 2016, individuals who can prove African ancestry, particularly descendants of those affected by the transatlantic slave trade, have been eligible to apply for Ghanaian nationality.

Over 1,000 people, including notable figures like American singer-songwriter Stevie Wonder, have successfully obtained Ghanaian citizenship in recent years. However, applicants have raised concerns over the complexity, multiple stages, and high costs associated with the process.

Dr Erieka Bennet, ambassador for the Diaspora African Forum, which supports relocation to Ghana, told the BBC that many applicants struggle to submit required DNA evidence within the one-week deadline and questioned the reliability of the tests. She noted that additional fees further complicate the process. The application costs $136, and shortlisted candidates are required to pay an additional $2,280 before attending a one-day citizenship orientation. Citizenship is formally granted during a ceremony overseen by President John Mahama.

The Ghanaian government has stated that updated timelines and guidelines will be issued in due course, although no specific timeframe has been provided. The temporary suspension has caused uncertainty for potential applicants planning relocation or investments in Ghana.

Ghana’s outreach to the African diaspora reflects its post-independence Pan-African vision championed by the country’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, and was relaunched in 2019 as the Year of Return initiative. Diaspora members invest in sectors such as real estate, agriculture, technology, and small businesses, often seeking citizenship to access public services, vote, and legally own property.

Other African nations, including Benin and Sierra Leone, also provide citizenship to people of African descent based on verified ancestral ties.

South Africa has taken a cautious approach to monetary policy, opting to hold its benchmark interest rate at 6.75%, amid easing inflation risks and a firmer currency. This pause, the first since September 2025, marks a shift in the central bank’s strategy as global uncertainty persists.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB)’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted 4–2 in favor of maintaining rates, with two members advocating a 25-basis-point cut. The decision follows cumulative reductions of 100 basis points over the past year, which brought the policy rate down from 7.75% to 6.75%.

Governor Lesetja Kganyago noted that the near-term inflation forecast has softened due to a stronger rand and lower oil price assumptions. December’s 3.6% inflation print may represent the peak for the year, although food and electricity prices remain potential upside risks. The central bank also revised its 2026 inflation projection to 3.3%, edging closer to its 3% target anchor within the 3–6% target band.

“Global volatility continues to challenge our outlook,” Kganyago said, citing geopolitical tensions and oil price fluctuations as key uncertainties. He highlighted that while South Africa has paused its easing cycle, other African economies are pursuing different approaches.

For instance, Angola cut its benchmark rate by 100 basis points to 17.5% in January, reflecting improving domestic conditions and easing inflation. Ghana surprised markets with a 250-basis-point cut to 15.5%, the lowest since February 2022. Tanzania, meanwhile, held its policy rate at 5.75% to sustain economic growth.

In Nigeria, analysts anticipate a gradual shift toward rate easing at the next Monetary Policy Committee meeting in February. Last September, the central bank cut its policy rate by 50 basis points to 27%—the first reduction in five years—but has since maintained a cautious hold.

The current environment underscores a broader trend in Africa, where central banks balance domestic inflation control with global financial shocks. The SARB’s approach emphasizes careful monitoring of inflation drivers and currency movements, aiming to stabilize the economy while maintaining investor confidence.

SARB’s decision also reflects the growing complexity of monetary policy in a globally interconnected market. With renewed foreign investor interest in South Africa and neighboring countries, the central bank’s cautious stance seeks to ensure that domestic stability is not compromised by external shocks.

As 2026 progresses, policymakers across the continent are expected to navigate a delicate balance between stimulating growth, controlling inflation, and maintaining financial market stability. South Africa’s measured approach signals that monetary policy will remain responsive but prudent, prioritizing long-term economic resilience over short-term gains.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana said it was alarmed by the events that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, January 3. The ministry emphasized that such acts violate the Charter of the United Nations, international law, and the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of states.

Ghana noted that statements made by US President Donald Trump regarding the administration of Venezuela and access to its oil resources evoke a colonial and imperialist precedent, which it said has no place in the modern international order.

The Ghanaian government reaffirmed its commitment to the principle of self-determination, stating that only the Venezuelan people should determine their political and democratic future. It called for the immediate de-escalation of tensions and the release of President Maduro and his wife.

Ghana also reiterated its long-held stance against invasion, occupation, and any violations of international law, underscoring the importance of maintaining global stability and respecting national sovereignty.

The improvement reflected a return to growth in output and new orders, alongside sustained increases in employment and inventories. Analysts attribute the recovery to improved customer demand and reduced selling prices, which boosted product affordability.

“The expansion hopefully sets the tone for further improvements over the rest of 2025 as new orders continue to rise,” said Andrew Harker, Economics Director at S&P Global Market Intelligence.

The report noted that new orders increased for the ninth consecutive month, while firms continued to reduce their prices amid muted cost inflation. Wage pressures also eased to the joint-weakest level since early 2021.

Despite the rebound, business confidence dipped to a six-month low in October. However, 77% of surveyed firms said they expect higher output over the next year, supported by anticipated stability in exchange rates and further demand growth.

Employment levels also improved, extending a nine-month streak of job creation. Companies cited success in filling vacant positions and expanding purchasing activity to meet rising orders.

S&P Global added that while exchange rate fluctuations affected input costs, some firms benefited from the cedi’s appreciation, which helped moderate price pressures.

Economists say the October data points to a cautiously optimistic outlook for Ghana’s private sector as it continues to navigate currency volatility and subdued global demand.

Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Minister for Works and Housing, Ghana, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei and his Deputy, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, for their unwavering commitment and progressive policies toward the development of affordable housing in the country.

Speaking during a recent visit to Accra, Festus Adebayo, Executive Director of HDAN, praised the Ghanaian government for demonstrating genuine political will to address housing challenges and ensure that decent and affordable housing is accessible to all citizens.

According to Adebayo, the efforts of Ghana’s Parliament and Ministry of Works and Housing represent a model for other African nations striving to bridge their housing deficits.

“What we are seeing in Ghana today is truly inspiring,” Adebayo said. “The government, working hand-in-hand with parliament, is creating a well-structured and transparent real estate environment where affordability, regulation, and citizens’ protection are prioritized. This kind of partnership between legislative oversight and executive action is what Africa needs to achieve housing for all.”

During the visit, HDAN met with key stakeholders in Ghana’s housing and construction sector to discuss emerging reforms and opportunities for collaboration across the continent. The HDAN boss expressed satisfaction with ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at regulating the real estate market, stabilizing prices, and creating a safe environment for investors, developers, and homebuyers.

In her remarks, the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, outlined the Ministry’s ongoing programs, which include social housing delivery, urban regeneration, and road infrastructure resilience. She reaffirmed the government’s determination to expand affordable housing delivery and improve living standards across the country.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Works and Housing, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, assured that the committee would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to decent housing. He emphasized that housing remains one of the top priorities of the Ghanaian Parliament.

HDAN, a pan-African advocacy and research organization, has been at the forefront of promoting affordable housing and sustainable urban development across the continent. With over 5,000 members, including professionals from the construction, real estate, and financial sectors, the organization continues to engage governments and private sector actors to strengthen housing policies, improve regulation, and promote innovations that make homeownership more accessible to Africans.

Adebayo further urged other African governments to emulate Ghana’s commitment, describing it as a “beacon of progress in housing reform” that could inspire regional collaboration in tackling the continent’s housing crisis.

“If every African government shows this level of consistency and accountability in implementing affordable housing policies, we will begin to close the gap and build cities that work for everyone,” he added.

HDAN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana and other African countries in advancing sustainable housing policies that empower citizens and drive economic growth.

The Convener of the Africa International Housing Show (AIHS), Festus Adebayo, has formally welcomed a high-level delegation from the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana to Nigeria, ahead of the highly anticipated 19th edition of AIHS, which kicks off this Tuesday in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

In a strategic move that highlights the growing regional collaboration on housing and infrastructure, Honourable Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Chairman of Ghana’s Parliamentary Committee on Works and Housing, led a delegation of lawmakers to Nigeria, affirming Ghana’s commitment to learning, networking, and striking business partnerships at Africa’s largest housing and construction platform.

Accompanying the chairman are Hon. Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, Vice Chairman of the Committee; Hon. Martin K. Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Ranking Member; Hon. Emelia Ankomah, Member; and Mr. Ephraim Amu, the Committee Clerk.

Speaking during a facility inspection tour at the venue Transcorp Hilton, Hon. Asamoah said the Ghanaian delegation was invited by Adebayo and was impressed by the scale of preparations so far.

“There’s a lot to learn from this exhibition,” he stated. “So, we accepted the invitation, and what we’ve seen so far gives a clear testimony that something big is about to happen. Starting from Tuesday, we’ll be part of the opening ceremony and all the exhibitions.”

The Ghanaian legislators expressed keen interest in meeting Nigeria’s business community, noting that they are not just in Nigeria for observation, but also to actively engage in deal-making and business development that could benefit both countries.

“In spite of the fact that we are leading a delegation from Ghana’s Parliament, we are also here to do business,” Hon. Asamoah emphasized.

Festus Adebayo, who welcomed the delegation to Nigeria, hailed the visit as a landmark moment in AIHS history.

“This is a testimony that AIHS is not just a Nigerian event, it is truly continental. Having the Parliament of Ghana with us this year elevates our platform and signals strong regional interest in housing and infrastructure collaboration, cross-border investment, and policy exchange,” he said.

The presence of Ghana’s lawmakers is expected to spark new investment discussions and multi-country partnerships during the Show, which has earned a reputation over the years for connecting developers, investors, and policymakers across Africa and beyond.

Adebayo also reiterated that this year’s edition is set to feature transformational sessions on housing finance, green housing and sustainability, construction technology, diaspora collaboration, investment, alternative building materials and methods, and policy development, with participants from over 21 countries already confirmed.

“We are set to witness one of the most impactful editions of AIHS ever,” Adebayo noted. “The conversations and deals that will happen this week will shape the future of housing on the continent.”

The 19th AIHS officially begins Tuesday, July 29, 2025, and will run through the week in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Nigeria.

The Nigeria Police Force has concluded its investigation into a high-profile corporate fraud case involving three Ghanaian nationals—Samuel Esson Jonah, Kojo Mensah Ansah, and Victor Quainoo—alongside a Nigerian accomplice, Abu Arome, over alleged illegal acquisition of shares in JonahCapital Nigeria Limited and its assets, including River Park Estate.

At a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the suspects orchestrated a complex scheme to take over control of JonahCapital and related firms by fraudulently increasing the company’s share capital and allocating 99 million shares to themselves using forged signatures and documents.

“They also falsely claimed Nigerian citizenship to manipulate records with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC),” Adejobi said, noting that the evidence points to a deliberate attempt to gain unlawful ownership of valuable corporate assets.

Despite invitations for questioning, the suspects allegedly ignored police summons and launched media attacks against the Inspector-General of Police and investigating officers. Adejobi stressed that no police panel has cleared the suspects, dismissing reports suggesting otherwise as false.

“The Police will proceed with full prosecution on charges including forgery, conspiracy, impersonation, and obstruction of justice,” he said, adding that the Ghanaian High Commission has been formally notified in accordance with diplomatic procedures.

Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to due process and the protection of lawful business interests, assuring investors that Nigeria remains a safe destination for capital.

“We encourage local and foreign investors to engage confidently in Nigeria’s economy, knowing that their interests will be protected under the rule of law,” the IGP stated.

The case underscores the Nigeria Police’s renewed focus on tackling white-collar crimes and safeguarding the integrity of corporate governance.
