The Federal Government has cancelled housing allocations under the National Housing Programme (NHP) for individuals who failed to complete payment within the required timeframe.

These recipients received a 90-day payment window, plus an extra eight-week grace period, but still didn’t meet the terms.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development made this decision based on the rules outlined in the Provisional Offer of Allocation. Paragraph 2 of that document clearly gives the Ministry the right to revoke the offer if the beneficiary doesn’t fulfill their financial commitment.

Salisu Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations, issued the statement and quoted Permanent Secretary Shuaib Belgore. He explained that the Ministry aimed this decision solely at those who ignored the payment requirements. According to him, the Ministry wants to ensure accountability and manage the housing scheme with fairness and efficiency.

19th Edition Africa International Housing Show

Beneficiaries who completed payment before the February 28, 2025 deadline still have valid allocations. The Ministry urged them to come forward, collect their Letters of Allocation, and take possession of their homes without delay.

To maintain public transparency, the Ministry posted the full list of revoked allocations on its official website. It also plans to publish the names in selected national newspapers during the first week of April 2025.

The Ministry believes this step will streamline the allocation process and prioritize applicants who are ready and able to commit. Officials emphasized that reclaiming homes from defaulters helps reassign those units to responsible individuals who are still waiting for their chance.

The Ministry also encouraged affected individuals and other members of the public to reach out for support. People can visit the official website, contact the Director of Public Buildings and Housing Development, or go directly to the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, for more details.

This decision sends a clear message to future applicants: if you take the process seriously and meet all requirements, you’ll benefit. If not, the opportunity will go to someone who’s ready.

A statement issued by Dr. Shuaib Belgore, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, confirmed the revocation decision on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the revocation strictly applies to individuals who did not fulfill the payment requirements within the deadline.

“The full list of individuals whose Provisional Offer of Allocation has been revoked is now available on the ministry’s website,” it said.

The statement clarified that beneficiaries who successfully completed their payments on or before February 28, 2025, remain unaffected.

All successful beneficiaries are advised to visit the ministry to collect their letters of allocation and take possession immediately.
