The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reiterated its support for the Lagos State Government’s proposed Ibeju-Lekki Airport, which has now secured a 4,000-hectare land allocation.

During a joint meeting in Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and NCAA officials discussed the project’s progress and regulatory requirements.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the project aligns with the state’s 2007 Master Plan, which identified the need for a second airport to serve Lagos’ growing population and industrial expansion, particularly in the eastern region.

BUY HOUSE NAIJA

He noted the urgent need for the project due to the rapid industrial development in Ibeju-Lekki and underscored the importance of the airport as part of the state’s broader transport infrastructure strategy.

NCAA’s Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, confirmed that the federal government has approved the project. However, he stressed that the Lagos State Government must submit a declaration of intent to the NCAA at least 180 days before construction begins. This will ensure that the project complies with aviation regulations and receives necessary technical guidance.

The meeting, which included key stakeholders from the aviation industry, highlighted the NCAA’s commitment to supporting the project as part of Nigeria’s ease of doing business policy. They urged the state government to expedite the submission of the required documents to prevent unnecessary delays.

With the allocation of 4,000 hectares of land, the Ibeju-Lekki Airport is expected to become a critical component of Lagos’ transport and economic infrastructure, further boosting the state’s industrial and commercial growth.
