A residential building in the Okota area of Lagos has been sealed by the state government for allegedly discharging raw sewage into a public drainage system, violating environmental safety regulations.

The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources confirmed the action in a statement on Sunday, revealing that enforcement officers from the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) carried out the operation on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

The affected property, located at No. 59 Ajoke Okusanya Street, off Ago Palace Way, Okota, was reportedly caught pumping untreated waste directly from its septic tank into a nearby open drainage.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, described the act as both dangerous and illegal, stressing that such practices pose serious risks to public health and environmental quality.

“This act constitutes environmental pollution and a threat to public health,” Wahab said, reaffirming the government’s zero-tolerance stance on unlawful sewage disposal.

He added that the operation followed credible surveillance and investigations confirming the environmental infraction.

The ministry urged residents across Lagos to remain vigilant and report similar violations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring a clean, safe, and sustainable urban environment.

“We will continue to take decisive action against any individuals or properties found engaging in practices that compromise the health of our people and the integrity of our environment,” Wahab said.
