The Yobe State Government says it has recorded major achievements in housing delivery and economic development under Governor Mai Mala Buni, reshaping urban infrastructure and improving social welfare across the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, disclosed this during a celebration marking Governor Buni’s seven years in office, highlighting progress in housing and urban development.

Over 2,350 Housing Units Delivered Across Yobe

According to the government, the administration has implemented an ambitious housing programme that has delivered more than 2,350 housing units across the state.

A major component of the initiative is the construction of 1,000 housing units in Damaturu, which has significantly transformed the state capital and expanded access to residential accommodation.

The government said the project is designed to support urban expansion and improve living conditions for residents.

50% Housing Subsidy for Citizens

Dr. Goje noted that the administration introduced a 50 percent housing subsidy to make home ownership more affordable for low- and middle-income earners.

The policy has reportedly increased access to housing, strengthened social stability, and improved public confidence in government housing initiatives.

Economic Diversification Through Key Projects

Beyond housing, the administration has focused on economic diversification through investments in commerce and industry.

Key projects include the Damaturu Modern Market and the ongoing Damaturu City Mall, both of which are expected to stimulate trade, create jobs, and attract private investment.

Industrial Growth and Job Creation

The government also highlighted progress in industrial development, including the establishment of processing facilities such as a Sesame Cleaning, Processing and Packaging factory.

These initiatives are aimed at boosting agricultural value chains, increasing productivity, and creating employment opportunities for residents.

Dr. Goje said the administration’s investments in housing and industry are part of a broader strategy to improve living standards and promote sustainable development.

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has warned that escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly the US-Iran conflict, pose significant risks to Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, threatening growth projections and operational stability.

Director-General of MAN, Segun Ajayi-Kadir, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the sector is already grappling with the ripple effects of a global energy shock triggered by the crisis.

He said the development could derail the sector’s projected 3.1 per cent real growth target for 2026, as rising crude oil prices continue to push up domestic energy costs.

According to Ajayi-Kadir, manufacturers’ heavy reliance on gas and Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) has exposed them to escalating production costs, significantly eroding profit margins.

“Energy cost escalation is biting hard. Many manufacturers are seeing their margins wiped out almost overnight,” he said.

The MAN boss further highlighted the impact of imported inflation and rising freight costs, explaining that extended shipping timelines and higher logistics expenses are making it increasingly difficult for manufacturers to source critical raw materials.

“The implication is clear — production costs are rising sharply, while consumer purchasing power is weakening. This has created a situation where manufacturers are battling both high costs and unsold inventories,” he added.

Ajayi-Kadir warned that the dual challenge of soaring production expenses and declining demand could undermine industrial output and stall sectoral growth.

To mitigate the impact, MAN called on the Federal Government to implement urgent policy interventions, including fast-tracking the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative to reduce dependence on diesel.

The association also urged the creation of a dedicated foreign exchange window by the Central Bank of Nigeria for manufacturers to import essential inputs.

In addition, MAN advocated the domestication of petroleum supply chains, calling for local refineries to prioritise supply to domestic industries at competitive rates.

It also recommended a temporary suspension of multiple taxation, logistics levies and haulage charges to ease the burden on manufacturers.

“The current crisis highlights Nigeria’s vulnerability to external shocks due to dependence on imported inputs,” Ajayi-Kadir said.

“While global geopolitics may be beyond our control, our domestic response must be deliberate and strategic,” he added.

He stressed that the situation presents an opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen local production capacity and move towards manufacturing self-sufficiency.

Ajayi-Kadir warned that failure to act decisively could lead to widespread factory closures, job losses and a major setback to the country’s industrialisation drive.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially unveiled the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025, marking a renewed effort to reposition the country’s industrial sector and boost local production.

The policy was launched on Tuesday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, with Vice President Kashim Shettima representing the president. The formal unveiling follows an earlier soft launch in Lagos and reflects the administration’s plan to deepen value addition, remove structural bottlenecks, and accelerate industrial growth.

Speaking on the new framework, the president described the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 as a strategic roadmap designed to re-engineer the country’s industrial ecosystem and unlock value across key sectors.

He stressed that the success of the policy would depend largely on effective implementation, noting that many policies fail at the execution stage rather than at conception.

Tinubu said the policy aims to move Nigeria from exporting raw materials to producing finished goods, integrate small and medium enterprises into industrial growth, and align infrastructure and energy supply with industrial ambitions.

He added that the government would measure progress by the number of new factories, jobs created, export volumes, and the level of value retained within the domestic economy.

Vice President Shettima also called for stronger collaboration between the government and the private sector to deepen local value chains and drive job creation.

At the event, President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, urged the government to convene a national forum to address the country’s persistent power challenges, describing electricity as the most critical factor for industrial growth.

He acknowledged recent efforts to stabilise the foreign exchange market but maintained that reliable power supply remains essential for sustainable industrial expansion.

Also speaking, the President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Otunba Francis Meshioye, said manufacturers were focused on ensuring effective implementation of the new policy.

The Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025 was first introduced in January by the Minister of State for Industry at the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh. The policy aims to raise manufacturing’s contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product to between 20 and 25 per cent by 2030.

Officials say the framework is designed to reduce reliance on imports, strengthen domestic manufacturing, boost exports, and improve coordination across key sectors such as trade, finance, energy, infrastructure, and skills development.

Lafarge Africa Plc has announced a 246 percent increase in profit after tax, reaching N207.78 billion for the nine months ending September 30, 2025, compared to N60.08 billion in the same period last year. The surge was driven by strong cement sales and improved operational efficiency.

The company’s unaudited financial results show revenue rose by 63 percent to N780.49 billion from N479.49 billion in 2024. Cement accounted for N759.62 billion of total sales, a 63 percent rise from N466.27 billion the previous year. Sales of aggregates and concrete grew to N19.95 billion, while other products contributed N915.24 million.

Lafarge Africa’s CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, attributed the strong performance to “sustained volume growth, operational excellence, innovative products, and agile response to market opportunities.” Operating profit rose by 129 percent to N298.41 billion, while profit before tax increased to N313.29 billion from N94.33 billion.

Despite inflation and rising energy costs, Lafarge managed to keep expenses under control. Cost of sales rose by only 34 percent to N324.36 billion, far below revenue growth. Finance costs dropped sharply to N5.40 billion from N36.56 billion due to reduced borrowings and lower foreign exchange losses, while finance income climbed to N20.28 billion from N810.54 million.

Total assets increased to N1.03 trillion from N810 billion in 2024, supported by higher investments in plants and stronger cash reserves. Equity grew to N629.2 billion from N345 billion, reflecting strong retained earnings despite a dividend payout earlier in the year.

Lafarge ended the period with N204.88 billion in cash and cash equivalents and generated N91.48 billion from operating activities, nearly double the figure recorded last year, highlighting the company’s solid financial position and sustainable growth outlook

Dangote believes Nigeria should be producing at least 50,000 to 60,000 megawatts. Right now, the country generates only about 4,500 to 5,000 megawatts. He said this level is not enough for a nation of over 200 million people.

The billionaire pointed out that his refinery project is proof that big projects can succeed in Nigeria. He believes similar success is possible in the power sector. He added that increasing electricity generation is not as hard as building the refinery.

Dangote stressed that solving the power crisis is not the government’s job alone. The power sector has already been privatised. He called on private companies and wealthy individuals to invest more in the country.

He urged Nigerian investors to stop sending money overseas. Instead, they should invest in the local economy. He said this will help build the country and boost confidence in the system.

Dangote linked capital flight to poor economic growth. He said stolen funds taken abroad do not benefit anyone. According to him, the money isn’t used by those who take it, and it doesn’t help the local economy.

Looking ahead, Dangote plans to grow his fertiliser business. He aims to become the world’s largest producer in 40 months. His goal is to reach 12 million tonnes in annual production.
