Speaking at the national convention of the All Progressives Congress held at Eagle Square in Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged the difficulty of the reform process but stressed that tough decisions were necessary to reposition the economy.

According to the President, recent policy measures have improved investor confidence, citing Nigeria’s Eurobond issuance which was oversubscribed by about 400 percent. He also noted renewed foreign interest in the oil and gas sector, alongside Nigeria’s exit from the global financial grey list, which he described as a sign of restored international credibility.

Addressing concerns over electricity supply, Tinubu admitted that the power sector remains a major challenge but assured citizens that targeted interventions are underway to improve energy availability and support industrial growth.

The President also cautioned party members against internal divisions, warning that personal ambitions could weaken the party more than electoral losses. He emphasized the need for unity and discipline within the APC to sustain its vision of national transformation.

Rejecting claims that his administration is steering Nigeria toward a one-party system, Tinubu maintained that democracy depends on a strong opposition and credible electoral processes. He added that recent electoral reforms were carried out legally to strengthen democratic institutions.

Tinubu further reiterated that his administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” is a guiding framework for governance, not just a campaign slogan, noting that policies such as fuel subsidy removal were necessary steps toward economic recovery.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, said the administration’s reforms are laying the foundation for long-term economic stability and growth.

Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, supported this position, noting that economic growth has improved from about 2 percent to roughly 4 percent annually, signaling a gradual recovery.

In his remarks, APC convention planning committee chairman, Aminu Bello Masari, expressed confidence in the party’s strength ahead of future elections, describing it as well-positioned and prepared.

The convention served as a platform for the ruling party to showcase its policy achievements, reinforce internal cohesion, and signal readiness for upcoming political contests.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) attributed the growth to steady foreign inflows and renewed investor participation across multiple asset classes.

CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, represented by Deputy Governor for Economic Policy, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi, disclosed the figures at a colloquium marking the 20th anniversary of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Department (MPD).

According to Cardoso, the rising reserves “reflect investor confidence in our policies, leading to improved oil receipts, stronger balance of payments, and renewed foreign portfolio inflows.”

The governor linked the growth to recent sovereign outlook upgrades by leading international ratings agencies, including S&P Global Ratings, which revised Nigeria’s outlook from stable to positive. He noted that Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List also boosted international confidence.

Cardoso explained that the combined developments have strengthened the naira, improved trade balances, and provided a stronger base for inclusive economic growth.

He further emphasized the CBN’s transition to a full inflation-targeting framework, calling it a “strategic imperative for sustaining price stability, boosting credibility, and enhancing monetary policy transmission across the economy.”

Director of the Monetary Policy Department, Dr. Victor Oboh, highlighted the department’s evolution over 20 years, supporting the MPC with research, analysis, and international policy coordination. Oboh noted that the MPD played a key role during past crises, including the global financial crisis, commodity price shocks, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reflecting on the MPD anniversary theme, “Monetary Policy in Nigeria: Past, Present and Future,” Oboh stressed that the department’s work has strengthened transparency, credibility, and public confidence in Nigeria’s monetary policy framework.

He added that future challenges, including global financial fragmentation, digital currencies, and climate-related financial risks, will require continued innovation, agility, and forward-looking policy coordination by the MPD.

Speaking in an interview with BusinessDay, Odutola explained that the fund was designed to introduce structure, transparency, and governance into a sector long constrained by short-term financing and policy inconsistency.

He said MREIF operates as a regulated, closed-ended collective investment scheme under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), with all transactions managed through independent custodians and trustees to ensure accountability.

Odutola noted that the initiative is building investor confidence by standardising mortgage-backed instruments and creating traceable housing assets with predictable income streams.

He added that the fund aligns public policy and private finance, positioning the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) as an anchor investor to de-risk early investments and crowd in pension funds, insurance firms, and development finance institutions.

According to him, MREIF’s multi-layered structure—featuring concessionary, commercial, and hybrid tranches—offers risk protection through MOFI’s first-loss position, while independent governance frameworks safeguard investors’ interests.

Odutola said transparency remains a key differentiator for MREIF, as the fund provides full disclosure through audited reports, performance dashboards, and regulatory oversight, helping to build trust and credibility.

He added that the federal government’s reforms around fiscal discipline and asset optimisation have strengthened investor confidence, with MREIF serving as a model for future infrastructure funds in sectors such as energy, transportation, and manufacturing.

Odutola concluded that MREIF represents a long-term vision for institutional maturity in Nigeria’s financial system, showing that disciplined governance and blended finance can drive sustainable housing and economic development.

Cardoso made this known at the conclusion of the IMF/World Bank Annual Meetings, where he also announced that Nigeria will assume the chairmanship of the G-24 group of developing nations on November 1, 2025.

Speaking to journalists, the CBN governor attributed the influx of new investments to enhanced security in oil-producing areas and consistent implementation of economic reforms over the past two years. “Reduced insecurity in oil-producing regions and targeted incentives have increased production and attracted over $8 billion in new energy investments,” Cardoso said.

He explained that reforms such as the unification of the foreign exchange market, monetary tightening, and fiscal consolidation are already producing tangible results, including moderating inflation, stabilizing the naira, and restoring investor trust.

Cardoso cautioned against “reform fatigue,” stressing the importance of policy consistency to consolidate recent gains. “We must continue to show results, because this is not a short dash, it’s a marathon. As inflation begins to trend down, people must see and feel the benefits to know that better days lie ahead,” he noted.

Highlighting the CBN’s engagement with Nigeria’s growing fintech ecosystem, Cardoso said collaboration between regulators and innovators is key to achieving inclusive and sustainable growth. “We’ve had several engagements with fintech operators to understand their challenges and develop a roadmap for sustainable progress,” he added.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s economic outlook, the CBN chief said the economy has achieved relative stability and is now entering a growth phase. “Nigeria is in a relatively good place. The economy is stable, I don’t think anyone can deny that. In the last quarter, we saw growth improve from three to four percent. Inflation is easing, and while we are on a good path, sustaining it requires staying the course,” he said.

Cardoso further observed that the global emphasis on growth, particularly by the United States as it takes over the G20 chairmanship, aligns well with Nigeria’s current trajectory. “We are now in the right place for growth, and I expect support from various economies, including the Americas. I see this as a very positive sign,” he concluded.

Speaking at the IMF/World Bank Meetings in Washington D.C., CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso said global investors and rating agencies have shown renewed trust in Nigeria’s economic direction.

He noted that the naira is strengthening, with the gap between official and parallel rates now below 2%, while foreign reserves have risen to over $43 billion, enough to cover 11 months of imports. Inflation, he added, dropped to 18.02% in September, the lowest in three years.

Cardoso said ongoing fiscal reforms, including subsidy removal and better revenue mobilization, are helping stabilize public finances and attract new investments. Over $8 billion has been committed to Nigeria’s energy sector this year alone.

He also announced that Nigeria will assume the Chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) on November 1, reflecting global confidence in the country’s reform progress.

Speaking at the AELEX law firm’s 19th annual lecture in Lagos, Osinbajo highlighted how judicial inefficiencies, policy inconsistency, and weak enforcement have hurt investor confidence.

Citing data from the Justice Research Institute, he noted that cases spend over four years in the High Court, three years in the Court of Appeal, and more than six years at the Supreme Court. He recalled how a UK Court of Appeal once described Nigeria’s legal delays as “catastrophic.” Osinbajo also recounted how landlords in Lagos turned away from rental property investments due to endless tenant disputes and a slow judicial process.

To tackle this, he suggested reforms including digitization of courts, stronger sanctions for delays, creation of commercial courts, and limiting judicial interference in arbitration. He also called for changes to laws that hinder enforcement of judgments against government agencies.

Osinbajo further stressed that inconsistent government policies discourage both local and foreign investors. He urged cross-party collaboration to ensure policy continuity and stakeholder engagement before major reforms.

At the heart of his message was a push for people-centered governance. With nearly 70% of Nigerians under 25, he warned that failure to address youth welfare and justice would threaten national stability. He concluded by calling for unity across the executive, legislature, judiciary, and private sector to deliver meaningful reform.

In a statement issued Monday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, the former Anambra State governor condemned what he termed the “willful destruction” of citizens’ livelihoods without due notice or adherence to legal process. Obi warned that such actions not only violate the rights of affected individuals but also threaten Nigeria’s broader economic and social stability.

“The recent demolition of citizens’ structures and the destruction of their goods and merchandise remain condemnable,” he stated. “At a time when the government is supposed to be lifting citizens out of poverty, it is instead plunging them deeper into hardship.”

Obi noted that many of the demolished shops and buildings housed merchandise and assets worth billions of naira, representing years of toil, entrepreneurship, and life savings for countless Nigerians. He questioned the rationale behind such demolitions, asking whether they serve any genuine public interest or merely reflect “arbitrary and disproportionate exercises of power.”

Without mincing words, Obi placed responsibility on the current administration’s leadership approach, arguing that within just 29 months, the government has exacerbated poverty and insecurity, instead of alleviating them. “These demolitions destroy livelihoods, undermine businesses, and threaten the economic security of hardworking citizens,” he said.

He urged government officials at all levels to adopt policies guided by empathy, rule of law, and long-term economic thinking, rather than reactive enforcement actions that displace vulnerable populations. “Every citizen has the right to build a life through honest work, and that right must never be trampled,” he wrote.

Obi further cautioned that such actions send damaging signals to both local and international investors, who may perceive Nigeria as an unpredictable environment where property rights are not guaranteed. “If we fail to stand against such injustices, we risk undermining the very foundations of economic growth and social stability,” he concluded.

The remarks come amid growing public outcry over widespread demolitions in major cities, often linked to urban renewal or land disputes, but which critics argue are carried out without transparency, adequate compensation, or proper legal procedures.

In a letter addressed to the President, the Chief Executive Officer of WINHOMES Global Services Ltd., Engr. Stella Okengwu, a U.S. based Nigerian investor criticized the Federal Ministry of Works for its handling of the demolition, warning that the move could significantly undermine investor confidence, particularly among Nigerians in the Diaspora.

Okengwu, whose firm is leading one of Nigeria’s largest Diaspora-backed real estate developments, emphasized that the matter is currently before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos (Suit No: FHC/L/CS/10063/25). She cautioned that any public statements or actions by government officials while the case remains pending risk violating the principle of judicial independence.

Referencing recent remarks by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, she described the public commentary on the matter as prejudicial and inappropriate, stressing that all parties must respect the legal process and refrain from actions that could be seen as contempt of court.

Established in 2021, the WINHOMES Estate project was conceived as a tourism-driven real estate initiative aimed at attracting investment from Nigerians in the Diaspora. The estate spans 20 hectares in Lagos, holds three valid land titles, and comprises approximately 2,500 fully serviced plots, each valued at around ₦150 million. The total estimated value of the project stands at ₦375 billion (approximately $250 million).

Okengwu noted that the recent realignment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway had affected around 400 plots, valued at over ₦60 billion, with estimated cumulative damages to the estate reaching ₦85 billion.

She also affirmed that WINHOMES Global Services Ltd. remains fully compliant with all regulatory and financial frameworks. The company is certified by the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML), and all funds were transparently sourced through legitimate international remittance platforms.

In her appeal to President Tinubu, Okengwu urged the Federal Government to ensure that due process is followed and that legal proceedings are allowed to run their full course without executive interference. She called for an independent valuation of the affected property to determine adequate compensation for investors, many of whom are Nigerians in the Diaspora.

She added that resolving the dispute in a transparent and lawful manner would reaffirm the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope agenda and send a strong message to the international investment community that Nigeria remains a secure and reliable destination for long-term investment.
