Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo made the announcement following an emergency meeting with security agencies and traditional leaders at the Government House, Lokoja.

“Certain bandit commanders have moved into Kogi in the past three days, but we will take the fight to them,” Governor Ododo said. He emphasized that the government will neither negotiate with nor pay ransom to the criminals. Instead, residents are being urged to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.

In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, assured the public that there is no current threat to schools or communities in Lokoja. “The panic circulating online is baseless. Residents should continue with their daily activities while government and security agencies maintain vigilance,” he said.

The State Security Council has also directed that all public events, whether religious or social, end by 4 PM until further notice. Authorities warned that any violations, such as unauthorized gatherings or blocking of streets, would face strict consequences, including demolition of non-compliant structures.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ayo Edun called for calm, reminding citizens that many social media reports are false. Traditional rulers, represented by His Royal Highness Tijani Anaje, pledged full cooperation with the government to maintain peace and security.

Kogi State continues to reinforce its security protocols, prioritizing the safety of residents, students, and businesses in the face of bandit threats.
