The Lagos State Government has arrested four suspects during a late-night cleanup operation under the Falomo Bridge in Ikoyi, as part of efforts to curb illegal activities in the area.

The operation was carried out by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce following reports that street traders had returned to the location after an earlier clearance.

Follow-Up Operation Targets Illegal Trading

According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement team revisited the site around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

He explained that the action became necessary after authorities received intelligence that traders had resumed activities at the under-bridge area, which had been cleared on March 30, 2026.

During the operation, officials dislodged traders and restored order in the vicinity.

Suspects to Face Prosecution

Wahab confirmed that four suspects were arrested during the exercise and would be charged in court.

He stressed that the government remains committed to enforcing environmental laws and preventing illegal occupation of public spaces.

Government Intensifies Monitoring

Authorities also revealed plans to intensify surveillance at Falomo Bridge and other parts of Lagos to prevent a recurrence.

The move is part of broader efforts to maintain sanitation, improve urban order, and enhance safety across the state.

Officials reiterated that enforcement operations will continue as part of the government’s environmental and public safety strategy.

A civil engineer, McDonald Ejiofor, has accused officials of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), operatives of the Lagos State Task Force, and suspected thugs of illegally demolishing his ₦500 million property in FESTAC Town, Lagos.

Ejiofor said the demolition occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at his residence on Plot 1892, Route 65, Caravan Estate, 6th Avenue, while his family was still inside. He described the destruction as the loss of “years of labour and dreams.”

According to him, he lawfully acquired the land from the Kuje family in 2016 after a Federal High Court ruling reportedly granted ownership of the area to the family.

“By the time I rushed home, they had already brought down the fence and split the building in two. My wife was still inside when they began the demolition,” he said, lamenting that valuables including furniture, documents, and certificates were lost in the wreckage.

Ejiofor alleged that when he tried to retrieve his belongings the next day, over 30 policemen assaulted and detained him, his wife, and his brother, forcing him to sign an undertaking not to return to the site.

However, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Task Force, Raheem Gbadeyan, denied the claim, stating that his men were only deployed to provide security backup for FHA officials during the operation.

Similarly, the FHA Head of Public Relations, Kenneth Chigelu, dismissed Ejiofor’s allegations, insisting that the entire FESTAC Town remains under FHA control.

He said, “He cannot claim land ownership through any private family sale. FESTAC belongs to the Federal Government. Even if he bought it, he needs FHA and state approval before any structure can stand.”
