In a statement, BCPG highlighted recent incidents, including a two-storey building collapse at Northern Foreshore Estate, Chevron Drive, on January 28, 2025.

That same day, another three-storey building collapsed at Mega Mall Estate, Ikota, resulting in two fatalities, according to emergency officials.

On March 5, 2025, a four-storey building under construction collapsed at Oriwu Street, Lekki Phase One, killing four people.

BCPG members who visited the site emphasized the urgency of an official investigation to determine the causes of these failures.

The guild recalled past cases, citing the collapse of a nine-storey building at Oniru, Victoria Island, in September 2022.

Despite multiple efforts by BCPG, the government failed to investigate, raising concerns about accountability and enforcement.

Similarly, a five-storey building collapsed in 2013 in Victoria Island without an official probe or land forfeiture action.

BCPG argued that the lack of government action suggests deliberate protection of individuals responsible for these structural failures.

According to Lagos State laws, buildings that collapse due to negligence should be sealed off and forfeited to the state.

The guild also cited the July 25, 2024, collapse of a three-storey building in Maryland, where no investigation has occurred.

It expressed concern that unqualified individuals dominate construction roles in some Lekki estates, contributing to repeated failures.

BCPG urged authorities to conduct thorough investigations and enforce existing laws to prevent further loss of life and property.
