President Bola Tinubu has charged the inhabitants of Gomani, Dafa, and Yangoji within the Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory to actively protect the newly inaugurated Gomani–Dafa–Yangoji Road. The President’s message was delivered by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the formal opening ceremony of the thoroughfare, as detailed in a statement released by the media aide to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, June 30.

Tinubu stressed that the ultimate duty of preserving the structural integrity of the highway now falls upon the host communities. He admonished the local population to view the infrastructure as a shared legacy meant to serve both current and upcoming generations. Addressing traditional rulers, community stakeholders, agriculturalists, merchants, and local youths, the President maintained that the infrastructure belongs to the public and must be heavily guarded against abuse.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has officially commenced a comprehensive promotion exercise for over 13,000 workers following authorization from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The extensive career advancement program is scheduled to span 10 days, encompassing personnel from both the core administration and the Federal Capital Development Authority across approximately 150 professional cadres and grade levels.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Engr. Emeka Ezeh, noted that this initiative is geared toward enhancing public service efficiency. He added that the development aligns closely with the federal administration’s broader national development goals. This particular FCT civil servant promotion exercise, which officially represents the 2025 promotion cycle, begins on July 1, 2026, under a framework designed to ensure total transparency.

Furthermore, the Minister has issued a directive ensuring that the subsequent 2026 evaluation cycle takes place before the end of the current year. This proactive approach aims to eliminate career stagnation and guarantee that all qualifying personnel transition smoothly to their next professional tiers without delay. The commission is actively collaborating with secondary agencies to resolve administrative bottlenecks that disrupted similar exercises in the past.

To maintain transparency, the evaluations will utilize a Computer-Based Test format, a technology the commission pioneered nationwide for civil service promotion workflows back in late 2024. Eligible participants are urged to cooperate orderly with coordinating officials throughout the designated examination timeline.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has annulled the Certificate of Occupancy previously granted to the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) by former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

The revocation, issued in a directive dated October 21, was justified by the governor as being in the “overriding public interest.” The action invokes the powers conferred on him under Sections 28 and 38 of the Land Use Decree No. 6 of 1978, now known as the Land Use Act.

Governor Okpebholo noted that the land formerly allocated to the Edo Museum of West African Art Trust (EMOWAA) Ltd/GTE would be reclaimed by the state and restored to its original function as the Benin Central Hospital.

In response, MOWAA clarified misunderstandings about its mission and activities in Benin City. Through its Director, Mr. Phillip Ihenacho, the museum emphasized its respect and reverence for Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting West Africa’s cultural heritage.

The museum also dismissed claims that it misrepresented itself as the “Benin Royal Museum” to secure funding, urging donors to verify directly that no such misrepresentation occurred. Director of the MOWAA Institute, Ore Disu, reiterated that the institution remains devoted to maintaining a respectful relationship with the Benin monarchy while continuing its cultural initiatives.

The Federal Government has honoured 18 outstanding civil servants with a range of rewards, including SUVs, laptops, cash prizes, and professional development opportunities. These awards recognize their dedication and exceptional service to the nation.

The award ceremony took place on Saturday night at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. In addition to the 18 individuals, two Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were also acknowledged for promoting excellence in public service.

Speaking at the event, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, described the honourees as “unsung heroes” who keep the public service running smoothly. She noted that this awards night marked the end of Civil Service Week, which included the first-ever International Civil Service Conference (ICSC) held in Abuja.

She praised the recipients as “quiet reformers” who show discipline, meet deadlines, write policies, and improve systems while maintaining a positive attitude. She stressed the importance of recognising these workers, saying, “We see you. We thank you. We honour you.”

Walson-Jack also explained that the awards ceremony is now a permanent part of the civil service calendar. It serves as a platform to celebrate those whose efforts often go unnoticed.

She highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s support for civil service reforms. She said his Renewed Hope Agenda shows a strong commitment to fairness, innovation, and reward. His presence at the recent ICSC opening further demonstrated his dedication to transforming the civil service.

She praised ongoing reforms such as the new minimum wage, pension improvements, digitisation, and better welfare packages. She also stressed the importance of punctuality, calling on civil servants to treat the 8 a.m. resumption time as a culture of respect.

She encouraged those who were not recognised this year to continue working hard, saying, “Recognition may take time, but it will come. Do your work so well that it cannot be ignored.”

Walson-Jack expressed concern about MDAs that did not submit nominations or sent in unqualified candidates. She urged them to take future editions more seriously.

Among the awardees, Dr. Bahijjatu Hadiza from the Federal Ministry of Environment received the presidential star prize, which included an SUV, laptop, plaque, award certificate, a foreign short course, and a masterclass opportunity.

Chukwudi Ekwenugo from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy received an SUV, ₦500,000 cash, a laptop, and similar training opportunities.

Other recipients got laptops, cash prizes ranging from ₦250,000 to ₦500,000, housing benefits, and professional development packages.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who represented President Tinubu, praised the resilience and commitment of Nigerian civil servants. He described them as the backbone of governance and national development.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a public service based on merit, innovation, and accountability.
