The United States Mission in Nigeria has directed that all non-immigrant visa applicants must disclose their social media usernames from the past five years when completing the DS-160 form.

Applicants are required to certify that the information provided is accurate before submission. Officials warned that failure to disclose or omitting details could lead to visa denial and even bar applicants from future eligibility.

The policy, previously applied mainly to student and exchange visa categories, now extends to all non-immigrant visas, including tourism, business, study, and temporary work.

According to the U.S. Mission, the move underscores the government’s increasing reliance on digital footprints to verify identity and strengthen security screening during visa adjudication.
