He argued that a more efficient dispute resolution framework would help unlock capital, reduce investment risks, and strengthen Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.

Speaking at a business and investment forum, Edun noted that lengthy legal processes often discourage investors and delay critical business decisions. According to him, creating a dedicated tribunal focused on commercial disputes would provide faster resolutions, improve contract enforcement, and create a more predictable business environment.

The minister stressed that access to swift and transparent justice is a key factor considered by both local and foreign investors when making investment decisions. He explained that improving dispute resolution mechanisms could support ongoing efforts to attract private capital into strategic sectors of the economy, including infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, and housing.

Edun further highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to implementing reforms that strengthen the ease of doing business and encourage long-term investments. He said Nigeria must continue modernising its legal and regulatory frameworks to align with global best practices and improve its attractiveness as an investment destination.

Industry stakeholders have long identified slow judicial processes and contract enforcement challenges as obstacles to business growth. Analysts believe that a specialised commercial dispute tribunal could reduce case backlogs, lower transaction costs, and improve confidence among domestic and international investors.

The proposal comes as Nigeria seeks to increase private-sector participation in economic development and mobilise additional capital to support infrastructure projects, job creation, and sustainable growth across multiple sectors.

The development was disclosed as authorities highlighted early progress in efforts aimed at boosting industrial growth, strengthening local production, and attracting private sector participation across key sectors of the economy.

Government officials stated that the investment commitments reflect growing confidence in Nigeria’s industrial development agenda and ongoing reforms designed to improve the business environment. The initiative seeks to support manufacturing, increase productivity, create jobs, and enhance the country’s competitiveness.

The investments are expected to support projects across multiple industries, contributing to economic diversification and reducing dependence on oil revenue. Officials noted that industrial development remains a critical component of Nigeria’s long-term economic growth strategy.

The government also emphasized the importance of collaboration between public institutions and private investors in achieving sustainable industrial expansion. According to policymakers, creating an enabling environment for investment remains a priority under the current industrial policy framework.

Stakeholders believe the commitments could help stimulate production activities, encourage technology transfer, and strengthen value chains across strategic sectors of the economy.

Economic analysts have welcomed the development, noting that sustained investment inflows into industry could improve employment opportunities and support broader economic resilience.

As implementation continues, attention will focus on converting the investment commitments into operational projects capable of delivering measurable economic benefits and supporting Nigeria’s industrial transformation goals.

An expert has urged the Nigerian government to deepen collaboration with the private sector as a key strategy to address the country’s widening housing deficit.

The call was made against the backdrop of persistent challenges in housing delivery, including limited access to affordable financing, rising construction costs, and gaps in infrastructure provision that continue to slow down large-scale housing development.

The expert noted that public-private partnerships remain one of the most effective global models for accelerating housing supply, especially in economies facing rapid urbanisation and population growth. However, the success of such arrangements depends heavily on clear objectives, strong institutional coordination, and transparent implementation frameworks.

He explained that many PPP housing initiatives in Nigeria have struggled to achieve their intended outcomes due to weak alignment between public and private sector goals. While government often prioritises social outcomes such as affordability and accessibility, private developers tend to focus on profitability and return on investment. This disconnect has contributed to inefficiencies in project delivery.

The expert also highlighted the importance of a well-defined regulatory environment, stressing that unclear policies and inconsistent enforcement have created uncertainty for investors. He argued that countries with more structured PPP frameworks tend to achieve better housing outcomes due to improved accountability and reduced operational risks.

Monitoring and evaluation were also identified as critical gaps in existing PPP housing schemes. Without effective oversight mechanisms, some projects have suffered from cost overruns, delays, and in some cases, mismanagement. Strengthening accountability systems, he said, would improve performance and ensure better use of public resources.

The discussion further pointed to land access constraints, inadequate long-term financing options, and high building material costs as additional barriers affecting housing delivery in Nigeria. These challenges, combined with weak policy coordination, have limited the impact of PPP-driven housing initiatives.

Despite these setbacks, the expert maintained that PPP remains a viable pathway for reducing Nigeria’s housing deficit if properly structured and implemented. He called for stronger institutional reforms, improved policy alignment, and increased private sector confidence to unlock large-scale housing development.
