The Federal Government has signed major contract agreements with four construction firms for the execution of strategic road projects across Nigeria, as part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The contract signing ceremony took place on Thursday at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works in Mabushi, Abuja, and covers road projects in Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun and Osun states.

According to the government, the projects are designed to improve transportation, strengthen regional connectivity and stimulate economic growth.

Road Projects Cover Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun and Osun

Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the projects represent critical national infrastructure aimed at boosting economic activity and enhancing national integration.

He explained that the administration remains committed to delivering durable road networks that will serve Nigerians for decades.

Among the awarded projects is the reconstruction of the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State, awarded to J. Patel and Sons Nigeria Limited.

Also included is the dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu Ode Road covering Oyo and Ogun States, awarded to JRB Construction Company Limited.

In Osun State, the Osogbo–Ikirun–Akoda Road project was awarded to Truecrete Solutions Limited, while the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road was awarded to Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited.

FG Pushes for Long-Lasting Concrete Road Technology

Umahi stressed that the projects align with President Bola Tinubu’s campaign promises and the Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda.

He stated that the government is prioritising rigid pavement technology to ensure durability and long-term value for public investment.

“Our vision is to build roads that will last for generations,” the minister said, noting that the adoption of concrete pavement technology would enhance sustainability.

He also directed contractors to immediately mobilise to site and begin work without delay, adding that performance monitoring would be strict.

Contract Values and Technical Details Revealed

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Rafiu Olarinre Adeladan, said the signing marks the completion of procurement processes and the official commencement of implementation.

Director of Highways, Construction and Rehabilitation, Clement Ogbuagu, disclosed the financial breakdown of the projects.

He said the 122-kilometre Mando–Birnin Gwari Road was awarded at ₦178.1 billion, while the 114.5-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu Ode dualisation project was valued at ₦295.9 billion.

He added that the Osogbo–Ikirun–Akoda Road project was awarded at ₦101.8 billion, while the Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road project was valued at ₦114.8 billion.

FG Targets Stronger Transport Network and Economic Growth

The Ministry said all projects will be executed using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology in line with federal standards for durability and efficiency.

Officials added that the road investments form part of a broader plan to modernise Nigeria’s transport infrastructure, reduce travel challenges and support economic expansion nationwide.

The Federal Government expressed confidence that the projects will significantly improve road connectivity and enhance trade across the affected regions.

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to affordable housing, revealing plans to align closely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda to address housing challenges, especially among low-income earners.

The disclosure was made by the Kano State Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, during the Renewed Hope Housing PPP Summit 2.0 held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Housing Development, Adamu Abdullahi, the commissioner said the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is intensifying efforts to provide wider access to decent and affordable housing for residents.

Kano Plans Easier Access to Housing

Arc. Adamu explained that the state government is introducing different initiatives aimed at simplifying the process through which residents can access housing opportunities.

He noted that the government is prioritising practical housing solutions capable of making home ownership easier and more accessible for the public.

According to him, authorities are working toward creating a system that removes barriers and allows more citizens to benefit from housing projects.

The commissioner also stressed that the government sees public-private partnerships as a major pathway to achieving large-scale housing development across the state.

State Receives Housing Proposals From Developers

Speaking on the summit theme, “From Policy To Projects: Financing and Delivering Housing at Scale Through PPPs,” Adamu said the discussions reflected the direction Kano State is already pursuing.

He disclosed that several proposals from credible development partners had already been submitted to the government and are currently undergoing review.

“Proposals are received, and they will soon be appraised towards actualising the housing ideas proposed for the benefit of our people,” he stated.

He commended the Federal Government’s commitment to tackling the nation’s housing deficit and improving the welfare of citizens through strategic housing interventions.

Kano Approves 480 Housing Units Under Mega City Project

As part of efforts to accelerate housing delivery, the commissioner revealed that the state government had approved the construction of 480 housing units under a project named Gida-Gida Mega City.

The housing development, located at Rijiyar Gwan-Gwan along Maiduguri Road, is expected to feature facilities designed to support a modern urban environment.

The project represents another step in Kano’s efforts to scale up housing delivery while creating sustainable communities for residents.

The 3.86-kilometre Abaranje Road, which links the densely populated Abaranje community to Igando along the LASU-Iba corridor, is expected to significantly ease traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and improve access to critical services for residents in Alimosho Local Government Area.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the project as a key milestone in the state’s efforts to modernize infrastructure under its THEMES agenda. “This road is more than just an asphalt layer—it is a strategic lifeline for businesses and residents, helping to boost economic activity and reduce travel time,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s dedication to investing in durable infrastructure that meets the daily needs of Lagosians. “Our goal is to continue delivering transformative projects that make life easier and more meaningful for everyone,” he added.

The governor noted that several other roads in Alimosho have been completed or are under reconstruction, including Akesan-Obadore Road, Ishefun Camp-Davies Road with jetty access, and the Lagos-Ogun State Boundary Road (Phase 2), among others. He also listed over two dozen ongoing projects aimed at further expanding the state’s road network.

In Agege, the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road in Dopemu was also unveiled. The project, executed by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation, was praised by the governor as a reflection of the administration’s resolve to reposition the agency as a modern, high-performance construction outfit.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, commended the collective efforts behind the projects and urged residents to protect the roads from misuse and vandalism. “Infrastructure belongs to all of us. Its value and longevity depend on our shared responsibility,” he said.

The newly commissioned projects form part of the state’s broader infrastructure development strategy aimed at easing mobility, driving investment, and enhancing quality of life across all local government areas.

The plan includes 1,000 units in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 250 units in each state capital.

He reaffirmed REDAN’s commitment to supporting the government in delivering on this national priority.

National Coordinator of the programme, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq, revealed that the planned housing units will range from one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments to three-bedroom flats and semi-detached duplexes, with initial rollouts in Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt.

To ensure affordability, the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) will provide a subsidized mortgage scheme at 6% per annum, alongside a rent-to-own option, both with repayment periods of up to 30 years, a significant improvement over the higher interest rates offered by commercial lenders.

Dr. Sadiq added that further stakeholder engagements will take place at hospital and institutional levels across the country. He stated that union leaders and healthcare professionals will soon begin the collation the necessary documentation to ensure early access and smooth participation in the scheme.

The Renewed Hope Medic Cities Initiative is part of the broader Renewed Hope Housing Programme championed by the Tinubu administration, aimed at providing inclusive, affordable, and sustainable housing for all sectors of society starting with those at the frontline of national service.

During a status review meeting with developers from various states, the Minister underscored the government’s zero tolerance for delays, substandard construction, or contractor negligence.

“This administration is committed to doing things differently,” Dangiwa stated. “If you’ve signed a contract, you are expected to deliver as agreed—it is not business as usual.”

He warned that contractors who fail to meet expectations would not only be removed from current projects but also blacklisted from all future federal housing and infrastructure developments.

In cases where construction fails to meet standards, such structures will be demolished, and developers involved will face strict penalties.

“We are not just building houses; we are building homes. Government funding must yield real results,” Dangiwa said. “We will not tolerate incompetence or bad faith that threatens the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

While he commended developers who have shown professionalism and commitment, the Minister stressed that successful project delivery depends on meeting both timelines and quality specifications. He also directed all Federal Controllers of Housing in the states to intensify oversight of project sites to ensure smooth execution in line with approved standards.

It also offers flexible payment options, including one-time payments and installment plans, and easy access to mortgage plans. Adding that the platform is not duplicating previous housing delivery systems but building on them to create a more efficient and futuristic solution.

Highlighting the collaborative nature of this initiative, Dangiwa recalled the Ministry’s partnership with a consortium of developers led by Continental Civil to deliver 100,000 housing units nationwide.

With this online housing sales platform, we aim to streamline the process for the marketing and sale of houses being built under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme”.

The housing platform will also provide critical data to implement a demand-driven strategy for housing, helping gauge housing needs for different locations and demographics.

The Renewed Hope Housing Platform currently has estates in 12 locations across Nigeria, including Yobe, Gombe, Ebonyi, Abia, Nasarawa, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Katsina, Sokoto, Oyo, and Osun, as well as cities in Abuja, Kano, and Lagos.
