<p>Gawuna, who was also the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 elections, confirmed his resignation in a letter dated March 27, 2026, stating that it takes immediate effect.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>He explained that the decision aligns with a directive issued by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mandating political appointees with electoral ambitions to step down ahead of the 2027 general elections.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<p>In his resignation letter, Gawuna said the move was in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the President’s directive.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p>Insiders revealed that Usman chose a quiet exit, believing it served the best interests of the commission. As of this report, neither the federal government nor NAHCON has issued an official statement.</p>
<p>Usman was appointed NAHCON chairman in August 2024 by President Bola Tinubu, succeeding Jalal Arabi, who was removed from office amid an EFCC and ICPC investigation into the alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion presidential Hajj subsidy for 2024</p>
