<p>He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led projects focused on fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.</p>
<p>He has also advised government institutions and private organisations on regulatory frameworks, strategic reforms, and investment structuring.</p>

<p>The nomination was earlier confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who stated that the request had been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation.</p>

<p>The nomination has been formally transmitted to the Senate for screening and approval in line with constitutional requirements. It follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.</p>
<p>Mr Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors, with a strong background in fiscal policy, economic reform, and institutional development.</p>
<p>He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major assignments in governance reform, regulatory restructuring, and public sector transformation across several African economies.</p>
<p>Beyond his private sector experience, Tegbe has advised government institutions and private organisations on investment structuring, policy reforms, and regulatory frameworks aimed at improving efficiency and attracting capital.</p>
<p>He currently serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates bilateral development initiatives between Nigeria and China. The role also involves engagement with public sector stakeholders to advance economic cooperation in line with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives.</p>
<p>Within the power sector, Tegbe has been involved in advisory engagements related to regulatory and institutional reforms, working with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).</p>
<p>His nomination is expected to support ongoing reforms in the electricity sector, particularly in improving grid stability, strengthening governance structures, and attracting long-term investment under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.</p>
<p>If confirmed by the Senate, President Tinubu expects him to deploy his experience to accelerate reforms and improve power supply outcomes across the country.</p>

<h2>Background and experience</h2>
<p>Oyedele, 50, hails from Ikaram, Akoko, in and brings over two decades of experience in fiscal policy and tax administration. He previously served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.</p>
<p>The committee produced four executive bills—, , , and —which consolidated over 60 taxes into fewer than 10 statutes and introduced reforms such as zero income tax for Nigerians earning N800,000 or less.</p>
<p>These reforms, signed into law by President Tinubu on June 26, 2025, also exempted small businesses with turnovers below N50 million from company income tax, capital gains tax, and withholding tax, while providing incentives for employment and wage growth.</p>
<h2>Career and education</h2>
<p>Before joining the tax reform committee, Oyedele spent 22 years at , rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from and a BSc in Applied Accounting from .</p>
<p>He has also completed executive programs at the , , , and . Oyedele currently serves as a professor at and is a visiting scholar at the .</p>
<h2>Transition and remarks</h2>
<p>Oyedele succeeds Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning. During his Senate screening, Oyedele described his appointment as a “call to serve at a critical time” for Nigeria’s fiscal management, emphasizing his commitment to economic transformation and fiscal governance.</p>

<h3>Appointment Follows New Political Economy Role</h3>
<p>Yuguda’s nomination comes shortly after former CBN Deputy Governor was appointed Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.</p>
<p>President urged the nominee to demonstrate professionalism and dedication in strengthening Nigeria’s financial system and supporting economic stability.</p>
<h3>Yuguda’s Career in Finance and Regulation</h3>
<p>Before his nomination, Yuguda served as Director-General of the (SEC) between 2020 and 2024.</p>
<p>He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from in 1983 and later obtained a master’s degree in Money, Banking and Finance from the , United Kingdom, in 1991.</p>
<p>Yuguda is also a Fellow of the (ICAN) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).</p>
<h3>Experience at CBN and IMF</h3>
<p>His professional career began at the in 1984, where he worked as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department.</p>
<p>Between 1997 and 2001, Yuguda served as an economist in the Africa Department of the (IMF) before returning to Nigeria.</p>
<p>He later became Director of the CBN’s Reserve Management Department and retired from the apex bank in 2016 after six years in the position.</p>
<p>If confirmed by the Senate, Yuguda will join the leadership team of the at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate economic reforms, inflation concerns, and foreign exchange management.</p>
