United States President Donald Trump has confirmed that American forces carried out multiple airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIS) fighters in Nigeria, describing the operation as decisive and warning that further military action would follow if attacks on civilians persist.

Trump disclosed the development late Thursday through a series of posts on his Truth Social platform, stating that the strikes were executed under his authority as Commander-in-Chief.

According to him, the operation targeted ISIS elements operating in Northwestern Nigeria, whom he accused of orchestrating sustained attacks on civilians, particularly Christians.

“At my direction, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS terrorists in Northwest Nigeria,” Trump wrote. “These terrorists have been viciously killing innocent people, and tonight, they paid the price.”

The strikes were later confirmed by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), which stated that American forces conducted the operation on December 25, 2025, in Sokoto State, in coordination with Nigerian security authorities. Following an executive council meeting on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, announced that the state will acquire 500 luxury housing units from the Federal Government at the proposed Sokoto City. The housing project, valued at ₦44.7 billion, is designed to address urban population growth and enhance access to quality residential accommodation.

“This is part of Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s vision to reshape Sokoto’s urban landscape and ensure decent housing for our citizens,” said Danchadi while addressing the press.

In a parallel development aimed at revitalising the agricultural sector, the council approved the procurement of 250 tractors and modern farming equipment worth ₦22.1 billion. The initiative will be jointly funded by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (60%) and the Ministry of Agriculture (40%).

Commissioner for Agriculture, Tukur Alkali, described the move as “a critical step toward achieving food security and mechanising farming operations, particularly at the grassroots level.” He added that the equipment will be made available to farmers at subsidised rates to boost productivity and rural livelihoods.

To improve safety and urban mobility, the state will construct a pedestrian bridge on Birnin Kebbi Road for pupils of Yakubu Muazu Model Primary School. The bridge aims to safeguard children navigating the busy route daily.

In addition, the government approved the installation of perimeter fencing around key water treatment facilities in Gagi, Mana, Asare, Old Airport, and Tamaje—critical infrastructure projects estimated at over ₦2 billion. These measures are intended to enhance water security and protect public assets on the outskirts of the Sokoto metropolis.
