A worsening gully erosion in Unguwar Wadada II, Abaji (FCT), has forced residents to abandon their homes. Multiple houses have already collapsed, and families are seeking refuge elsewhere.

The erosion has threatened lives and livelihoods for over three years. Some residents pooled funds to dump refuse into the gully in a desperate bid to slow its progression, but the crisis only deepens.

One resident, whose house collapsed last year, is now living with a neighbour. Another landlord reports that half of her building has already given way. Robust pleas for help, sent via letters to the council authorities, have gone unanswered.

A resident narrowly escaped tragedy when part of his home gave way. He swiftly evacuated with his family but remains displaced, appealing to the council and federal authorities for assistance.

The community chairman warns that the erosion is reaching dangerous levels cutting off access to Abaji town during crucial market days. He urges the local council to liaise with the FCT administration and tap into the Ecological Fund for a long-term solution
