Mr. Bamaiyi Giwa, a resident of Zhimi, lamented that the water shortage has persisted for over two months, forcing residents to rely on water vendors who charge exorbitant prices.

“We have repeatedly visited the water board office, but they only cite broken water pipes as the cause,” he remarked.

Residents have resorted to waking up at 3am to queue for water at the few available commercial boreholes. The cost of a truck of water, which previously held 10 jerry cans for N400, has skyrocketed to N1,300.

Mrs. Margareth Jonathan, another resident, expressed concern about the potential spread of waterborne diseases, particularly during the dry season when water hygiene is crucial. She urged the FCT Water Board to intervene promptly.

The water scarcity in Karu highlights the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades and effective water management strategies to ensure adequate and accessible water supply for all residents.
