One person has been confirmed dead, while 10 others were rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in Lagos, prompting an emergency response from rescue agencies and security personnel.

The incident occurred in the Ojodu-Berger area of Lagos, where emergency responders were deployed to the scene shortly after the building gave way. Rescue teams worked through the debris to locate and evacuate occupants trapped beneath the rubble.

Officials confirmed that one fatality was recorded during the operation, while 10 people were rescued and received medical attention. Emergency workers continued assessments at the site to ensure that no additional victims remained trapped.

Authorities have yet to establish the exact cause of the collapse. However, investigations are expected to examine factors including the structural condition of the building, compliance with construction regulations, and adherence to approved building standards.

The collapse caused panic among residents and temporarily disrupted activities around the area as emergency personnel secured the site and carried out rescue operations. Officials urged members of the public to avoid the vicinity to allow responders to continue their work safely.

Building collapses remain a major concern in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, with industry experts repeatedly advocating stricter enforcement of building codes, improved supervision of construction projects, and stronger regulatory oversight to prevent similar incidents.

State authorities said further updates would be provided as investigations continue and assessments of the incident are completed.
