Wema Bank Plc’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, emphasized the importance of inclusion and equity for women in the workplace during the Wema Bank International Women’s Day program themed ‘Empowerment through Finance’ held in Lagos over the weekend.

Oseni highlighted the need for gender balance in the workforce, affirming Wema Bank’s commitment to supporting and promoting women. He disclosed that the bank had set aside N8.9 billion for uncollateralized loans and provided support to Nigerian businesses owned by women.

“We need to support women because their contributions are crucial. I have never seen a plane that can fly with only one wing,” Oseni remarked.

He stressed Wema Bank’s deliberate efforts in recruiting a substantial number of women and ensuring they receive guidance in their careers.

The bank also strives to create a conducive environment for women, ensuring they are not disadvantaged compared to men.

“We are not just talking about it; we want to put our words into action,” Oseni emphasized.

Furthermore, Oseni highlighted the importance of increasing female representation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, advocating for their presence in the digital space.

Chairman of Wema Bank, Oluwayemisi Olorunshola, noted that the bank’s female-focused proposition, SARA, has positively impacted many lives by providing physical, financial, intellectual, and other essential resources for personal and professional success.

“Celebrating women aligns with the bank’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where women can thrive and achieve their fullest potential,” Olorunshola concluded.
