No fewer than 11 persons have been confirmed dead following a renewed outbreak of violence between rival communities in Nasarawa State.

The clash, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, involved residents of Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

Homes Razed, Residents Displaced

During the attack, more than 50 houses were set ablaze in Akyawa, while additional homes were destroyed in neighbouring Udege Kasa.

The violence has left many residents displaced, with properties and livelihoods destroyed in the process.

Police Confirm Casualties, Launch Manhunt

The Nasarawa State Police Command confirmed the incident, describing it as a reprisal attack allegedly carried out by hoodlums.

Police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, said the attack was linked to the earlier killing of two individuals, which triggered retaliatory violence. And

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the affected communities and ordered an intensive manhunt for those responsible.

Security agencies have also deployed additional personnel, working alongside the military and other forces to restore calm in the area.

Security Reinforced to Prevent Further Attacks

Authorities say proactive measures have been implemented to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

A stakeholders’ meeting was also held, with residents urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information for ongoing investigations.

Police insist that normalcy has been restored, while surveillance and patrol operations have been intensified across the affected communities.

Rising Concerns Over Recurring Violence

Local sources indicate that the latest violence may be linked to a series of recent attacks in nearby communities, raising fears of escalating insecurity in the area.

Residents have expressed concern over repeated incidents, warning that the situation could worsen without sustained intervention.

The Nasarawa clash underscores growing security challenges in parts of North-Central Nigeria, where communal disputes continue to claim lives and destroy property.

Authorities now face mounting pressure to ensure justice for victims and implement long-term measures to prevent further violence.
