OSOPADEC spends over ₦4bn to complete riverine projects across oil-producing communities in Ondo State as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and accelerate development in the region.
The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission disclosed that more than ₦4 billion has been invested in completing projects that had remained abandoned for years in several riverine communities.
According to the commission, the decision to revive and complete the projects was driven by the need to ensure that public investments deliver meaningful benefits to residents while addressing longstanding infrastructure gaps in oil-producing areas.
Officials stated that the completed projects cover various sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure, water supply, and community development facilities aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
The commission explained that many of the projects had been left unfinished by previous administrations, limiting their intended impact on local communities and slowing development efforts in the affected areas.
OSOPADEC noted that completing the abandoned projects has helped restore public confidence and provided communities with access to essential services that were previously unavailable or inadequate.
The agency further emphasized its commitment to ensuring that development projects are properly executed and delivered in line with the needs of the people living in riverine areas of the state.
Community leaders and stakeholders reportedly welcomed the intervention, describing it as a significant step toward addressing developmental challenges that have persisted for years in several oil-producing communities.
The commission also indicated that additional infrastructure projects are being planned as part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable development, improve social amenities, and support economic activities across the region.
Observers say the investment reflects growing attention on the need to maximise the benefits of public spending by completing existing projects rather than allowing critical infrastructure to remain abandoned.
With the latest intervention, OSOPADEC aims to strengthen development outcomes in Ondo’s riverine communities while improving access to services and infrastructure that support long-term growth.
