Kebbi’s 250-Home Estate Reaches 80% Completion

Construction of the 250-unit Kauran Gwandu Housing Estate in Kebbi State has reached approximately 80 per cent completion, according to Governor Nasir Idris.

The governor disclosed the project’s progress during an inspection of the development, where he expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and the pace of construction.

Idris commended the contractor for complying with the approved building specifications and maintaining the required construction standards.

He directed other companies handling government projects across the state to demonstrate a similar commitment to quality and responsible project delivery.

The governor warned that his administration would not accept poorly executed or substandard projects, stressing that contractors must ensure that Kebbi residents receive value for public funds.

He expressed confidence that the estate would be delivered within the stipulated period.

The development forms part of the Kebbi State Government’s efforts to improve access to decent and affordable accommodation for workers and other residents.

Idris said the government would consider awarding additional housing projects to the contractor if the current estate was completed successfully and in accordance with its approved specifications.

The proposed housing expansion would target state and local government employees, teachers, federal workers, media professionals and other categories of residents requiring suitable accommodation.

According to the governor, the objective is to give workers across different sectors a stronger sense of inclusion while improving their welfare and living conditions.

He also announced that the Kebbi State Government had acquired a housing estate previously owned by the Federal Government.

Idris said payment for the property had been completed and the necessary ownership documents secured.

Arrangements are now being made to award contracts for the completion of the outstanding units within the acquired estate under a federal mortgage arrangement.

The additional development is expected to complement the 250-unit Kauran Gwandu Housing Estate and increase the supply of formal housing in the state.

The governor reiterated that his administration would continue to implement projects capable of producing measurable benefits for residents.

For the housing programme to deliver its intended social impact, stakeholders will expect the government to provide clear information about the completion date, allocation criteria, selling prices and financing options available to prospective beneficiaries.

Transparent allocation and affordable repayment terms will be essential to ensuring that the completed homes reach the workers and households for whom they are intended.
