President Bola Tinubu has initiated leadership changes in Nigeria’s oil and gas regulatory agencies following the resignation of the chief executives of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
Farouk Ahmed stepped down as Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, while Gbenga Komolafe resigned as Chief Executive of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari after the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act.
In response, President Tinubu has written separate letters to the Senate, requesting confirmation of new chief executives to lead the two key regulatory bodies. The requests were conveyed on Wednesday as part of efforts to ensure continuity and effective regulation of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
More details are expected as the Senate considers the President’s request.
