The Federal Government has fulfilled its promise to reward Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, , with houses and national honours following their triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket tournament.
Housing documents presented in France
The (NSC) confirmed that housing documents were officially presented to members of the gold-winning squad in Lyon, France.
The presentation was carried out by NSC Chairman and Director General .
The reward package had earlier been announced by President on August 4, 2025, following the team’s successful title defense.
Cash rewards and national honours
Each player received a cash reward of $100,000, while members of the coaching and technical crew were awarded $50,000 each.
In addition, the president approved a three-bedroom flat for every team member at the Renewed Hope Estate and conferred on them the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Players express appreciation
Team captain thanked the government and Nigerians for their continued support, stating that the team remains committed to making the country proud.
Head coach also commended the sports authorities for their backing, expressing optimism about the team’s future performances.
Focus shifts to World Cup preparations
The ceremony comes as D’Tigress continue their campaign in the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers in Lyon.
The team recorded victories against Colombia and the Philippines but suffered defeats to South Korea and France.
Despite the mixed results, Nigeria has already secured qualification for the global tournament after winning the AfroBasket title and is using the matches as preparation for the World Cup.
