Five people have been injured after a building partially collapsed in Oldham town centre, prompting a major emergency response.
The incident occurred just after midday on King Street, with emergency services rushing to the scene at approximately 12:40pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
Emergency response underway
According to Greater Manchester Police, officers are currently working alongside other emergency responders to secure the area and ensure public safety.
Authorities confirmed that five people sustained injuries, though none are believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing as emergency teams continue to assess the situation.
Medical teams treat victims
The North West Ambulance Service said multiple emergency resources were deployed following a distress call received around 12:30pm.
These included a Hazardous Area Response Team, air ambulance support, doctors, advanced clinicians and operational commanders.
Five individuals have been assessed so far, with two already transported to hospital for treatment.
Officials confirmed that the injuries sustained are not considered severe.
Firefighters secure the scene
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engines were dispatched to the scene shortly after the collapse.
Firefighters are working to stabilise the affected structure and ensure there are no further risks to the public.
Authorities also confirmed that five people had exited the building before emergency services arrived, helping to limit the severity of the incident.
Road closures and safety measures
A large safety cordon has been established around the King Street area, with several roads temporarily closed.
Police have advised members of the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services carry out their operations without obstruction.
