Former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, is alive and in good health, contrary to widespread rumours alleging he died in London.

The clarification was issued on Friday by Don Adinuba, former Anambra Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, who described the reports as completely false.

Adinuba explained that Obiano has been residing in Texas, United States, and not London as claimed in some online reports, adding that the former governor remains “healthy, strong and agile” at 70.

“The Nigerian media have been abuzz in the last couple of hours over a rumour that the immediate past Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has passed on in London. This rumour has no basis. Chief Obiano lives in Texas, United States, and not London,” he said.

According to him, the former governor’s wellbeing is not in doubt, and the public outpouring of concern reflects how highly Obiano is regarded even years after leaving office.

“The outpouring of love across the globe shows how much Chief Obiano matters to many, almost four years after leaving public office and choosing a quiet private life abroad,” he added.

Adinuba likened the situation to previous instances where prominent Nigerians were falsely reported dead, including the late Nnamdi Azikiwe, whose rumoured death once turned out to be untrue.
