The Nigeria Police Trust Fund has inaugurated a new divisional police headquarters and housing units in Ado-Ekiti as part of efforts to strengthen crime-fighting operations in the state.

The project, commissioned on Tuesday, is aimed at improving police infrastructure and boosting officers’ welfare to enhance service delivery.

Infrastructure to boost policing

Speaking at the inauguration, Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, described the development as a strategic investment in modern and people-centred policing.

He said the initiative aligns with the agency’s nationwide plan to rehabilitate and construct critical police infrastructure, including stations, barracks, training institutions and healthcare facilities.

According to him, improved infrastructure will enhance operational efficiency and strengthen the capacity of officers to respond effectively to security challenges.

Focus on officers’ welfare

Sheidu emphasised that providing decent accommodation for officers remains a key priority, noting that improved welfare would boost morale, reinforce discipline and increase dedication to duty.

“Today’s commissioning is not just about unveiling structures, but reaffirming our commitment to responsive and community-focused policing,” he said.

He assured that the Trust Fund would continue to expand similar projects across the country to support the operations of the Nigeria Police Force.

Government backs security investment

Governor Biodun Oyebanji described the project as a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security nationwide.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Oyeniyi Adebayo, the governor noted that security remains critical to economic growth and social stability.

He added that peace extends beyond the absence of conflict to include safety, stability and freedom from fear in daily life.

The governor also appealed for additional infrastructure support to further strengthen the state’s security architecture.

Police assure effective use

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joe Eribo, represented by P.T Nyatse, commended the Trust Fund and the state government for their support.

He assured residents that the newly commissioned facilities would be properly maintained and fully utilised to improve policing outcomes.

Eribo reaffirmed the command’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders to safeguard lives and property across the state.
