The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has reaffirmed its commitment to results-driven governance with the conclusion of a two-day ministerial retreat focused on the Performance Management System (PMS) and the official signing of 2025 performance contracts by directors and unit heads.

Held in Abuja on July 3 and 4, 2025, the retreat brought together senior officials of the ministry to align on deliverables and accountability mechanisms for the year under review.

Declaring the retreat open, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, described the gathering as a strategic leadership forum, emphasizing that it was designed to instill a culture of efficiency and service delivery across all departments. He underscored the retreat’s significance in the context of increased public expectations and presidential oversight.

“This is not a routine administrative activity—it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to performance, transparency, and results,” Dangiwa stated. “The Presidential Performance Bond we signed is a pact with Nigerians, tracked through detailed scorecards and real-time dashboards by the Central Delivery Coordinating Unit.”

The minister stressed the need for full implementation of the Results-Based Performance Management System, noting that every officer must align with key performance indicators (KPIs) and accountability frameworks tailored to the Ministry’s strategic goals.

Key 2025 deliverables highlighted during the retreat include the construction of 20,000 affordable housing units under the Renewed Hope Housing Programme, aimed at job creation and economic stimulation; the development of fiscal incentives to boost local production of building materials; and the expansion of the National Land Registration and Documentation Programme (NLRDP) in partnership with state governments.

In his keynote remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, reaffirmed that PMS is now a mandatory feature of public sector governance as stipulated in the Revised Public Service Rules of 2021.

“The institutionalization of performance management is not optional; it is essential for transparency, identifying capacity gaps, and ensuring every official contributes meaningfully to national development,” Belgore said.

The retreat concluded with the formal signing of performance contracts, reinforcing a ministry-wide resolve to deliver on national housing and urban development priorities in 2025.

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has appointed Dr. George Elombi as its new President and Chairman of the Board of Directors. This marks a major leadership transition at one of Africa’s most important financial institutions.

Dr. Elombi, a Cameroonian national and long-serving executive at the bank, is the fourth President since Afreximbank was founded in 1993. His appointment was confirmed at the bank’s 32nd annual general meetings, held from June 25 to 28 in Abuja. Shareholders gave their final approval on Saturday.

He will officially replace Professor Benedict Oramah, who has led the bank since 2015 and is set to step down in September 2025.

Dr. Elombi began his career at Afreximbank in 1996 as a Legal Officer. Over nearly 30 years, he rose through the ranks, taking on key roles such as Executive Vice President for Governance, Legal and Corporate Services, Director and Executive Secretary, and Chief Legal Officer. Before joining Afreximbank, he taught law at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.

Dr. Elombi has played a central role in the bank’s growth. He helped establish several subsidiaries and expand the bank’s reach across Africa. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he chaired the Emergency Response Committee, leading efforts to mobilise over $2 billion for vaccine procurement and distribution across Africa and the Caribbean. Under his leadership, the Equity Mobilisation and Investor Relations department raised $3.6 billion in equity as of April 2025.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Elombi expressed his commitment to the bank’s mission. “I have had the privilege of working with visionary leaders and colleagues to shape this institution’s mandate and growth,” he said. “Looking ahead, I see Afreximbank as a driver of Africa’s industrialisation and a symbol of dignity for Africans everywhere. I will work to preserve and grow this legacy.”

He also pledged to continue pursuing the bold target set by his predecessor: transforming Afreximbank into a $250 billion institution within the next decade.

Dr. Elombi holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a Ph.D. in commercial arbitration from the London School of Economics, University of London. He also earned a Maitrise-en-Droit from the University of Yaoundé.

His appointment followed a rigorous global selection process that began in January 2025. The search included an open international call for applications, interviews by a top executive search firm, and a final recommendation from the Board of Directors to the shareholders.

Under the Afreximbank charter, the President is appointed by the general meeting of shareholders on the Board’s recommendation. The term is five years and may be renewed once.

HDAN Boss, Festus Adebayo Congratulates the new Oluoke, describing him as an embodiment of humility

The President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), Prince Akintoye Adeoye, has emerged as the newly selected Oluoke of Okeigbo Kingdom, ushering in a new era of traditional leadership in the historic Yoruba town.

This development was confirmed in a press statement issued by the Executive Chairman of Ileoluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area, Honourable Adebare Adeboye, who congratulated the new monarch on his emergence after a peaceful and transparent selection process.

According to the statement, Prince Adeoye clinched the majority of votes 9 out of 14 from the Warrant Chiefs, surpassing five other contenders from the Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House, including Prince Gbenga Aremu Odetayo Ojo, who polled five votes.

Honourable Adeboye praised the integrity and dedication of the 14 Warrant Chiefs, who fulfilled their royal duty with respect for tradition and under official supervision. He also expressed optimism that the new monarch would lead Okeigbo Kingdom into a future marked by unity, peace, and development.

“We believe that under the leadership of Prince Akintoye Adeoye as the Oluoke, Okeigbo will continue to witness growth, cultural pride, and sustained development,” the Chairman stated.

Reacting to the news, Barrister Festus Adebayo, Executive Secretary of the Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), extended his warm congratulations, describing the new Oluoke as an embodiment of humility and praying for long life and wisdom on the throne of his ancestors.

Prince Adeoye’s emergence not only marks a significant milestone in the traditional leadership of Okeigbo but also highlights a unique convergence of modern leadership and cultural heritage, as he brings into the royal stool a wealth of experience from his role as the national head of REDAN.

The people of Okeigbo are now rallying behind their new monarch with hope and enthusiasm for a prosperous reign.
