Security agencies have successfully rescued 24 schoolgirls abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.
While details of the rescue operation remain sketchy, security sources informed TheCable that the students have regained freedom, and an official announcement is expected later in the day.
The abduction of the students had caused widespread concern nationwide, prompting intensified security efforts, including aerial surveillance and ground troop deployments in affected areas.
The rescue marks the latest in a series of security operations aimed at curbing rising school and community kidnappings across Northern Nigeria. Security officials continue to pursue intelligence-led operations to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of students in vulnerable regions.
The authorities have urged parents, residents, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to assist in maintaining security across Kebbi and neighbouring states.
