NiMet Forecasts Three Days of Sunshine and Dust Haze Nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a three-day weather outlook predicting sunshine, dust haze, and isolated thunderstorms across various parts of the country from Friday to Sunday.

NiMet’s update, issued on Thursday in Abuja, shows that moderate dust haze with visibility of 2 km to 5 km will affect parts of Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Kebbi on Friday.

Slight dust haze is also over Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa.
In the central region, Niger State and the FCT will experience moderate dust haze, while Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and Kwara will record sunny skies with patches of clouds.

NiMet stated that the southern region will see cloudy skies, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain in Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers during the morning.
Later in the day, thunderstorms are likely in Imo, Abia, Ondo, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

On Saturday, the northern region will remain sunny with a hazy atmosphere, while slight dust haze is expected in Niger State. The rest of the central region will experience sunshine with few clouds.

The southern region will begin with cloudy skies before isolated thunderstorms develop in Delta, Ondo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

For Sunday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies across most parts of the country, with the southern region experiencing cloudy conditions in the morning before thunderstorms return to Lagos, Ogun, Imo, Abia, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

NiMet advised residents—especially those with respiratory issues—to take precautions as dust particles remain suspended in the atmosphere.
Airline operators were urged to obtain updated flight-specific weather reports for safe planning.
