The Anambra State Government has announced the official renaming of its newly inaugurated Government House Mini City in Awka. The complex will now be known as Light House Awka, a nod to the state’s motto, Light of the Nation.

The decision was among several resolutions taken during the 10th meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), which convened on Monday. This marked the third executive session held at the new administrative headquarters, which Governor Chukwuma Soludo has described as a “functional centre of governance.”

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the renaming followed deliberations aimed at selecting a title that reflects the complex’s role in Anambra’s evolving governance landscape.

“The council unanimously adopted ‘Light House Awka’ to encapsulate the symbolic and functional essence of the new seat of government,” Mefor said.

In a broader push to reshape institutional and social structures, the council also endorsed the creation of the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission, following the recent passage of the state’s electricity law. A recruitment campaign is now underway to enlist industry experts to staff the commission.

The meeting also addressed concerns around child welfare. In line with provisions in the Anambra Homeland Security Law 2025, properties found to be harboring child beggars will be sealed and forfeited to the state.

The council further reflected on the Children’s Day celebration held at Solution Fun City on May 27, which it praised as a success and a reflection of improving civic values among the youth.

In a bid to accelerate industrial and infrastructure development, the state also awarded several new contracts. These include the construction of a pharmaceutical-grade kaolin processing warehouse in Ukpor, awarded to Strata Projects Ltd at a cost of ₦190.48 million, with a completion target of eight weeks.

Additionally, Zamlic Ventures Ltd has been commissioned to extend the Nnewi industrial power line and install a 750 KVA transformer at the Ukpor Kaolin Plant. The project is valued at ₦110.11 million and is expected to be completed within six weeks.

A separate contract worth ₦155.65 million was awarded to Analiro Enterprises Ltd for the procurement and supply of official uniforms and operational gear for the state’s Ocha Brigade.
