An Ogun State High Court has issued an interim order restraining Governor Dapo Abiodun and state officials from demolishing or interfering with properties belonging to former governor Gbenga Daniel, including his Sagamu GRA private residence, Asoludero Court, and the Conference Hotels Limited with its annex.

Justice O.S. Oloyede granted the ex parte order on Tuesday after hearing a motion filed by Daniel and his wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel, through their counsel, A.M. Kotoye, SAN. The suit lists Governor Abiodun, the Ogun State Attorney General, the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, and the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development as defendants.

According to the Certified True Copy of the ruling, the court’s order restrains the defendants, their agents, and any representatives from demolishing, trespassing, or disturbing Daniel’s enjoyment of the properties pending the determination of a motion on notice. The quit notice in contention, dated August 8, 2025, has also been suspended by the court until the hearing of the application for an interlocutory injunction, scheduled for August 19, 2025.

Daniel had accused Governor Abiodun of politically motivated harassment, claiming that notices of contravention, quit, and demolition threats were pasted on his properties on August 8. He described the allegations against him as “laughable” and driven by “political vindictiveness.”

However, the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Tpl Tunji Odunlami, denied any political targeting. He stated that the contravention notices were part of a routine land audit of Government Reservation Areas (GRAs) under the state’s urban renewal project. Odunlami added that all affected property owners, including Daniel, were expected to present their documents for verification and that similar audits would be conducted in GRAs across Ogun State.
