The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, has commissioned a newly completed accommodation facility for senior ratings at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bonny, Rivers State.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Bonny, where Rear Admiral Okehie praised the Commanding Officer of FOB Bonny, Commodore Emmanuel Fingesi, for setting a high standard in infrastructure development within the Command.
Rear Admiral Okehie noted that the project reflected deliberate leadership focused on improving the welfare of officers and ratings at the Base. He stated that such commitment to personnel welfare was commendable and deserving of recognition.
On arrival at the Base, the FOC, accompanied by the Command Operations Officer, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chinonyerem Oji, and the Commander of NNS Pathfinder, Rear Admiral Cajetan Aniaku, was conducted around the newly completed building by Commodore Fingesi.
Speaking during the event, the Base Operations Officer of FOB Bonny, Lieutenant Commander Sirajo Almustapha, explained that the 20-man Senior Ratings Lodge was conceived, initiated, completed, and fully furnished by the Commanding Officer of the Base to address the persistent shortage of accommodation for ratings.
According to Almustapha, the project commenced on Friday, August 22, 2025, and was completed on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. He said the timely completion of the facility demonstrated the Base’s commitment to discipline, excellence, and effective project execution.
He added that the new accommodation is designed to house 62 ratings, effectively eliminating the accommodation deficit previously experienced at the Base.
The newly commissioned facility, alongside other ongoing initiatives under Commodore Fingesi’s leadership, has significantly enhanced the infrastructural profile of FOB Bonny and improved living conditions for personnel.
