The Federal Government has unveiled a state-of-the-art Digital Innovation Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its broader push to position Nigeria as a global digital economy powerhouse.

Commissioned on Wednesday by President Bola Tinubu—represented by Governor Dapo Abiodun—the facility is designed to nurture tech talent, support startups, and serve as a hub for research and innovation. The project is one of several underway nationwide, with similar parks being developed in Kano, Borno, and Enugu States.

The new centre is equipped with modern digital infrastructure, including computer laboratories, smart networking systems, co-working spaces, and multipurpose halls. These will serve as practical learning environments and collaborative spaces for innovators, entrepreneurs, and students across the region.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, said the project is a cornerstone of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places technology and youth empowerment at the heart of national development.

“This facility isn’t just a building—it’s a gateway to opportunity,” the minister said. “It represents our commitment to nurturing innovation, creating jobs, and building a digitally-driven economy that could unlock a $1 trillion future for Nigeria.”

Tijani highlighted technology as a key accelerator for economic growth, particularly for developing nations like Nigeria. “We are working to create the right conditions for tech to thrive. The Innovation Park is not just a concept—it’s a practical step toward transforming ideas into real, scalable solutions,” he added.

The choice of Abeokuta as the Southwest hub for the initiative was strategic, Tijani noted, pointing to the city’s academic potential and its proximity to Lagos—Nigeria’s commercial and tech epicenter.

“Abeokuta has what it takes to stand alongside not just Lagos, but also cities like Kigali, Accra, and Nairobi. We see the energy in its youth, the strength of its institutions, and a government that is serious about building a digital future,” he said.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, welcomed the development as a major win for the state and a signal of the government’s dedication to diversifying the economy through innovation. He pledged continued support for youth-focused tech initiatives and infrastructure that encourage digital growth.

Tijani concluded by calling on universities, private sector leaders, and development partners to collaborate with the government in transforming the park into a “living lab” for innovation. “The world is taking notice of places it once ignored. This is our chance to show what Nigerian ingenuity can do,” he said.
