The Ogun State Government has announced that the newly built Gateway International Airport, strategically located along the Ilisan-Iperu corridor, will officially begin commercial operations on October 7, 2025.

Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed that Value Jet Airline will pioneer services at the facility with twice-weekly flights to Abuja. Departures from Ogun will be scheduled for 8:30 a.m., with return flights from the Federal Capital Territory at 4:00 p.m.

Ticket sales are set to commence on September 25, available online, through travel agents, and directly at the airport.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has certified the airport with an Aerodrome Operational Permit, classifying it as a Code 3C facility with Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) Category 6. The airport will operate daytime flights with area navigation support.

Governor Abiodun also revealed that discussions are ongoing with an international logistics firm to commence twice-weekly cargo flights from London, underscoring the state’s ambition to position the airport as both a passenger hub and a gateway for global trade.

With its launch, the Gateway International Airport is expected to ease congestion at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport while boosting Ogun State’s profile as a centre for investment and connectivity.
