Ghana’s inflation rate dropped to 3.8 percent in January 2026, down from 5.4 percent in December 2025, according to figures released by the Ghana Statistical Service on Wednesday. This marks a 1.6 percentage point decrease month-over-month.
The reduction was primarily attributed to a decline in food inflation, which reached 3.9 percent in January.
These latest results signal increasing price stability in the cocoa-producing West African nation and represent the lowest inflation rate since the rebasing of Ghana’s Consumer Price Index in 2021.
At a press briefing, Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu stated that the trend demonstrates ongoing progress in stabilizing prices. “The sustained decline indicates that Ghana is steadily moving toward price stability,” Iddrisu commented.
In contrast, Nigeria is still awaiting the release of its January 2026 consumer price index and inflation data, scheduled for February 16. In December, the National Bureau of Statistics reported that Nigeria’s inflation rate dropped to 15.15 percent, although many Nigerians continue to face the pressures of high living costs.
