Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of a distinguished son of Edo State and former Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, who died over the weekend.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo described the late Dr. Arase as a patriotic Nigerian, an illustrious Edo son, and a reform-minded leader whose contributions to national security remain invaluable.
“We have lost a great mind, a dedicated public servant, and an exceptional leader,” Governor Okpebholo said. “Dr. Arase was a man of integrity and honor who served our country with distinction, rising to the pinnacle of his career through hard work, dedication, and an unshakable commitment to justice.”
The Governor noted that impactful reforms, including the promotion of professionalism, accountability, and community policing in the Nigeria Police Force marked Arase’s tenure as the 18th Inspector-General of Police.
“His legacy will live on as a beacon of hope for future generations, inspiring young police officers and public servants to embrace service, discipline, and patriotism,” the statement added.
Governor Okpebholo extended his condolences to the Arase family, the Nigeria Police Force, and the people of Edo State, urging them to take solace in the life of purpose and honor that Dr. Arase lived.
“While we mourn his passing, we are comforted by the knowledge that he touched countless lives positively and left an indelible mark on our state and nation. We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he prayed.
